New Dropbox version limitation when downloading files

New Dropbox version limitation when downloading files

The new version of Dropbox slightly changes its interface with the new File Provider API. The cloud icon is now interactive and allows you to directly put the data offline by clicking on it without going through the context menu. This is all very practical, but have you thought about the possible consequences? Each operation initiates a synchronization which cannot be canceled. If we click on a small folder fine, but if we click without paying attention on a root folder containing several Tera of data for example? What's going on, can the computer really accommodate the entire server on its disk, of course not. It would have at least been useful to have at least a warning message when the file contains a very large amount of data.

Thanks a lot.

Hi @verger1, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

If you marked a file to download in Finder, have you tried marking the folder as online-only in the context menu to see if this helps stop the download?

This will help me to assist further!

Hello,

Yes, I tried to give a counter-order by selecting "online", but this is only taken into account at the end of the operation, so it doesn't cancel anything.

Dropox interprets commands one after the other, a new command does not interrupt the previous one.

This is why, before starting the synchronization of thousands of files, it would be very desirable to have a message to confirm the operation

Thanks for your feedback on this, @verger1! I’ve passed it on to our team as well, so that they can see your comments here, and how this could affect your syncing.
