It actually sounds more likely that you have been infected by a virus or malware.
You need to clean the machines infected first and then follow https://help.dropbox.com/security/ransomware-recovery
https://help.dropbox.com/delete-restore/recover-older-versions may also help if you are a paid user and can use Rewind.
