Corrupt Files when moving files from folder to folder (iPhone images saved with ".")

Corrupt Files when moving files from folder to folder (iPhone images saved with ".")

Using windows 11, I manage my drobox files in my windows folders with dropbox app installed. I drag and drop all "2023" or all "2022" files to a respectively named folder, however because these images are iphone images they contain a "." in the name, and this "." has caused some files to corrupt when moving to a folder.

As I was bulk moving the files, I did not look into the folder until a month or so later to go and edit, this is when I saw the problem, 2.5k files corrupted, either as a UFO symbol or as a PDF, and because this action happened more than 30 days ago I can not restore the previous version of the files 😞

I am very confused as to how this as happened, surely there would be a warning system in place for the "."?

Does anyone have any way to restore these files?>

The . shouldnt cause an issue at all - its a simple move.

HOWEVER I'm wondering were they set to available locally before the move? If not that could cause issues

No they weren’t saved locally as the files take up too much space on the computer. However, I still see that as a function that shouldn’t result in corrupted files, or if corrupted im surprised no notification

Hey @benjaminwdavies - sorry to jump in here, but have you tried renaming those files to see if that helps?
