Ability to customize sync queue based on specific folders

Ability to customize sync queue based on specific folders

I work on audio productions on several machines; sometimes I don't need for all files synchronize on the machine I am working on, so I would like to have a fast way to stop the synchronization. Instead, depending on the internet speed, I have to wait for the specific files I need to sync. (this is unrelated to the folder sync settings)

Hi @redfalcon! Hope you’re doing great.

Can you please clarify what your current Dropbox plan is? I’m asking because, if you don’t want specific files to sync locally, you can right click on them on the desktop app and set them to be online-only instead.

Other than that, you can also remove entire folders from the Dropbox app with selective sync

Is this what you’d like to achieve?

Let me know.

Sorry for the nudge, @redfalcon! Just wanted to check if you’ve seen my previous post. Thanks.

Hi @Nancy, I`m on Dopbox Business Standard.  I am aware of the selected syncing options. What I am referring to is a more real-time file-based syncing problem. For instance: I work on multiple computers, as do team members. We all work on various projects in audio simultaneously (podcasts mostly), hence syncing large data files at the same time. Our entire project folders are on dropbox, because we have multiple clients with whom we exchange files sometimes on a daily basis, at least weekly. For this reason we have most of the folders which concern active, on-going projects on "available offline" (as opposed to online only), because obviously we need to access them quickly and constantly. Now, my colleague might work on a project, hence their files will sync with their dropbox, and so will mine. So now I have to wait sometimes through countless of gigabyte, until my files are up. Now, I know I can select specific files for "up next", but this isn't convenient, mainly because there are so many files to select (as background info, working with audio and video, you deal with lots of working and temporary files).

So in other words what I ask for is, the possibility to customize my sync queue in real time, ideally on a folder basis. So I want the files from a project I  am working on at the moment to sync first, and maybe  I don't even want my colleague's files to sync, because they are temporary files I am never gonna need. However, they have to be on Dropbox because we interchange who works on which project.

In other words, give me more control of real time file syncing queue. Does that make sense?

Best, Georg
