Hi, I find limited in the choices of subscription plans. Basic/free and Pro/110$

I'd gladly pay something like 25$ a year for 50GB and a 2 users family plan.

Considering iCloud have a 12$ plan for 20 GB and 48$ for 200GB, that seems reasonable..

KC and Matt B, instead of another “essay of drivel”, I’ll just be short, blunt and borderline rude.

KC and Matt B, neither of you can afford DB Pro. That’s the cold hard truth. If you find DB useful then you would just pay the darn fee. Whatever it is. Instead of whining and complaining about it.

How’s that, Matt B? Short enough lol?

Scott, KC, again, ad hominem is all very clever, but perhaps instead you might deign to enlighten us as to where the rule is which states Dropbox have to pursue unsustainable policy, i.e. loss making price plans, just because a few loud voices on a forum demand it? Presumably it isn't beyond the wit of such keen intellect to articulate even a single valid reason...

You choose to ignore every aspect, waiting for the next chance to copy-paste your lines.

I came back to see what the latest conversation on a "lite" paid plan only to see the same old arguments. Count me as one of those that doesn't need 1 TB, but would gladly pay less for a lesser plan.

Before Robert and Kenneth attempt to tell me I'm too cheap, don't value the service, or don't understand business, allow me to say that my value proposition is this: I continue to pay Dropbox nothing and use their service for a few things that work best on Dropbox, or they allow me to pay something (but yes, less than they want right now for 1 TB). I personally think some money is better than none.

A quick aside, I do find Kenneth's:

Google Drive now offers a 15 GB plan for free. A 100 GB plan for $1.99 a month. Then it jumps right up to 1 TB at $9.99 a month. There's nothing in between.

Fairly hilarious. 100 GB for $1.99/month is definitely in between 0 and $9.99/month.

To those saying they will move to Google Drive, don't. It's a slow crap service with too many issues. I recently switched from Dropbox to Drive for the same reason, now I am back (but testing OneDrive - since I still see no justification in paying 5 times more).

Here is why Gdrive sucks;

  1. Upload a large file lets say 4gigs to Drive and Dropbox using their native app, once synced;
    a. Delete from Gdrive (web) and empty thrash - Delete drop Dropbox (web) and empty it's history/permanently delete.
    b. Add the same file to Gdrive and Dropbox again - Dropbox will take less than 30 seconds while drive will reupload the entire thing.
  2. Delete the native apps of both Gdrive and Dropbox (not deleting the folders/data on your computer).
    b. Reinstall the apps and Gdrive will start re-uploading and downloading the file and create copies, so if you have 10GB synced and you did that 10 GB will be uploaded and copies will be downloaded. Dropbox will do nothing, it knows that the files are already synced. Even if you move files manually/locally to a new computer Dropbox will know not to sync files that are already there.
  3. Create a folder with a special character like "&" example "Mom & Dad" on Gdrive, now download it by right clicking on it in Gdrive web... removes the special chars. Dropbox does not.
  4. Upload programs that are standalone (like Filezilla) on Gdrive and sync them to another computer and it won't work (Gdrive does not upload some files, no idea which ones) - on Dropbox it's a breeze. The problem is with Gdrive and many people have reported it on their forms.
  5. Gdrive for web uses non-standard keyboard shortcuts, "n" to rename rather than "F2"... really?
  6. Sync speeds are much slower on gdrive, at least for me.
  7. Automated tasks, automations, macros create a duplicate file mess on Gdrive. I have a few Excel files that use macros on .CSV files, what they basically do is update the data in the CSV files and saves them. When you goto Gdrive on the web you can see that it creates copies of the CSV file, with the same name, each time you run the macro... literally creating several hundred files with the same name.
  8. No one click share link creation.

My experience with Gdrive was horrendous. Though I still do agree with others on the pricing, $5/month or $50 a year with extra for Extended version history and I will be a paid use in a heartbeat.

$5/month or $50 a year, that's still much expensive than Gdrive and super expensive compared to OneDrive - Onedrive comes with Office 365 for 5 users, 1TB each for 5 users and 60 Skype minutes/month for 5 users for the same price Dropbox charges for 1TB.

Today, I've decide to use Google Drive istead od Dropbox after a lot of years using happily dropbox. However,  once my Samsung promtion has been over, I need more space for keeping my 22gb. The only option I have is to pay 99€/year for  1Tb that I don't really need at all!!! Google Drive has a more interesting and suitable prices policy. I am paying 2€/month for 100Gb that it's enough for me. Dropbox team: it's a pitty to lose happy customers willing to pay... but a reasonable price for a reasonable amount of space...

I have to migrate on Google Drive with 2$/100GB plan. I think, that will be better for you too. Every company estimates market and makes better decisions for it's finance.

I cancelled by Dropbox Pro as the price in Canada now is $12.99/mo. For $7/mo I get exactly the same amount of data, 1TB, PLUS Office 365. It doesn't make sense to stick with Dropbox anymore when they're almost charging double and offering far less value. Upping their prices while competitors are lowering theirs is absolutely going to bite them in the butt eventually. I realize the fanboys like Robert and Kenneth will continue to trumpet their praises, but that's what fanboyism is. Mindless trumpeting. They sound like those twits on the PC master race subreddit.

 

I can afford Dropbox Pro no problem. That's not the issue. They're no longer offering fair value or options for their product in a competitive marketplace. That's the lone issue here.
