The core 'ask' is for the ability to launch a Preview without loading a new page. Ideally, this would function somewhat similarly to Mac's "preview" spacebar function - bringing up a sort of "pop-up preview" window overlay which launches the file without requiring navigation away from the file's folder location.
I like to imagine a Play button appears when the mouse hovers over an icon in List or Grid view. Or, like Mac's Finder, the ability to use keyboard navigation through List or Grid, followed by a key command which would launch the Preview. Doesn't have to be spacebar.
Users could then Preview audio & video files (& photos/docs/etc.) without requiring new page navigation. And, Users could still utilize the Selection boxes within the same Folder View independently of the Preview function, allowing for action to be taken on any number of selected items at any point throughout the Previewing process.
My personal use case is: I upload raw files from multiple sources (phone + desktop) to Dropbox and end up with gobs of audio & video files that need to be sifted through, yet I have no streamlined way to screen them without either a) new tabs, b) an external tracking system, or c) another workflow altogether.
Other use cases: Photographers could more easily organize large batch uploads. Technicians could more easily review documentation. Music producers could more easily screen for the right snare sample. Proud moms and dads could more easily show pictures & videos of their kids.
Just an idea! Thank you for your product, you all are great. I used to be your neighbor at Ubisoft on Brannan St. in San Francisco 🙂
