We have a small office with 3 Macs and 4 Windows computers. When a Mac user names a file with an incompatible character only Windows users get notified and we have to tell the Mac user to change the filename so it will sync - or Windows users have to look in the Sync issues, then View File, and then change the name. If there are many files this takes a long time.
We currently also have noticed that in some folders and filenames our Mac users have a backslash in the name. This shows up as a colon when we look at it in the online 'View Files' link.
Idea #1: Dropbox adds warning for Mac users (as Windows users now see)
Idea #2: Audit files that Mac users (and Windows too?) add in Dropbox and force them to correct it immediately to sync the file.
Idea #3: Add a 'Correct incompatible characters' button to the Sync Issues dialog (or even just the web interface of Dropbox) where a user can batch fix all of these items - with a simple file renaming interface - instead of the current renaming of individual files which is very time consuming.
