I don't think it's that easy.

First, if the "need" for it isn't very wide-spread then it might not be lucrative to spend development resources on it. The usual/default User will probably not even use the 2 TB plan for just some files and pictures.

Second, as with all "unlimited" offers of anything - there is risk of abuse. While a good chunk of the userbase will probably behave in a predictive manner and just slowly rise in what space they need - there will also be those that will try to use that unlimited space to their advantage and Dropbox's (or their userbases') disadvantage.

But i'm convinced that everybody is aware of the above - so consider it just writing down what everyone already knows.

What i will say is that with the advent of Dropbox advertising itself as a "Backup Solution" the needed storage space might go up a bit. There is a difference between synching a few select files between some Devices and backing up your PC for example. Even less technical or "specialized" Users might have stuff lying around on their PC that amounts to larger volumes of data then they'd need if they pick and choose.

If you really need unlimited space from Dropbox and you have the coin you can already get unlimited space -> buy the advanced team account. What we're asking for here is a more affordable option of unlimited space for an Individual - otherwise everybody here would just go and buy the advanced teams option. How do you calculate a price that facilitates that for an individual, covers their costs and prevents or factors in abuse?

While maybe not a technical issue, it sure is an organizational/accounting/billing one. We'd not be happy if the end result is them having to raise the price after very short time just because they figured out that it doesn't work after the fact.

And as always - if it's free then you're the product.

So i'm happy for them to try to figure something out that works for everybody in their own time. But i'm ofc also VERY happy if that doesn't take too long 😉

Same thing here! Dropbox has a great product and service BUT it lacks from customization such as storage upgrade options for personal or solo professionals. Companies who use Business paid plans on Dropbox have greater and better features for roughly same cost per user than personal/professional users. Creatives and professionals who generate quite some GB of media files (audio/music production, raw/psd files, filmmaking) needs tools which ensure cloud storage and multi-device access. A reasonable fee would be acceptable to upgrade storage. I understand Dropbox is afraid from having unlimited storage users abuse. Just set the limits where the company is comfy but please, do not stop creatives and pros from growing their storage as they need. It is as easy as setting "TB" upgrades or an unlimited plan. This current lack of storage upgrade, drives users to find out other services more capable of hosting the storage they require. React, Dropbox!

We would like to give you more money for more space. Please let us do so.

I upgraded to 3 TB but soon I'll be out of space. I can't justify going to a business plan as I'm only one user.

The best option would be "unlimited" storage where you just charge us for what we use by prorating it each month or each day/week. At times I need 3 TB (or more) but then I go way back down as I purge video footage.

Realistically the best first step is to allow us to purchase more space in chunks though. Come up with a price for an additional 1 TB and let us buy in those increments.

Perhaps this has been mentioned before in a topic before. As a professional self employed person, I made an enquirer for unlimited storage for a single, however was advised that in order to go with unlimited storage on I would need a business plan and that I have to buy 3 licenses. I don't need 3 licenses for myself. Can unlimited storage be made an option for single users.

I am a single person/photographer/videographer and I just have loads of footage from my past be it family/work and nothing short of 30TB would be enough for me.

Truly I would appreciate a single user with an unlimited price option. I am considering deleting my business plan because I just don't need to be paying for 3 users for this feature.

I run a small film production company with me as the only employee. I currently use Crashplan Pro for backing up all my footage to the cloud. However, their transfer speeds are slower than syrup and I would love to move my storage to Dropbox.

As a pro user I would be happy to pay something like 30-40 USD per month for unlimited storage (Crashplan is about 16 USD/month). But right now it seems a bit steep for me as a single user to get a 3 user Advanced plan 😅

I had asked one of the dropbox agents if i want to cancel a monthly or yearly upgrading plan,, the answer was:

If you downgrade to the free plan, your storage will change to a 2GB limit at the end of your current billing cycle. What will happen is if you are over that limit, you simply won't be able to upload any more files into your Dropbox account, and your account will also stop syncing. But your files will remain in your account.

means you lose the space and money, you only won the saved files will not be deleted
