Some people deal with confidential files and use Dropbox for these. It would be very useful to allow people the option to clear their "Recent" files at will to allow more privacy and discretion.
Agree with all on this thread. This lack of security will be the biggest(but not the only) Dropbox "function" that causes me to store my files elsewhere and cancel this service. The right pane and it's crushing effect on file previews is the second largest issue, as it makes the preview function essentially unusable.
Dropbox, to remain youngsters among boring old fogeys please just implement this cool feature, really needed. No shortcomings, only expanding of our privacy. Privacy & reliability that is why we prefer Dropbox.
It's bewildering, that there isn't an option to do this and it's because it has been asked time and time again. It has been requested multiple times and through years and it seems like a very simple thing to do.
Having a "Recent Files" is helpful for some but not others. People access personal, sensitive information on their Dropbox and maybe do not want that displayed on the first screen. It seems you're following the path of Google as well because it is hard to turn off Recents there. I'm not sure why you wouldn't include it as a feature.
Yes, I get the argument, it's easier for teams to work with "Recent Files" on, but let's be honest, not everyone is working in teams and people have personal use cases for Dropbox. I don't like my financial scans and statements popping up on the Recent screens and I'll be honest, I don't want "kid unfriendly" content out on the splash screen either.
So you really need a way to turn this off. Or are you going to say use Vault and mark the issue as solved?
Yeah it's bewildering that they cannot give us the option to clear... or turn it off. I just posted and didn't see this thread. I mean come on! If i was only accessing 'kid friendly' content then, sure why not, but people all around access personal, sensitive information all the time and don't want it "splash screened" as the first thing!
It's 2021, and there still isn't a way to clear the list of recent activity? It's a privacy concern and a nuisance. I see dozens of requests going back to 2015. Is there ANY progress on this? I'm not a developer, but this seems like it would be an easy button to add. Any help on this?
In addition to clearing recent files, I'd like to be able to clear the "cache" more easily as well. By creating a special entry in the settings of the app
And still no update on this? This is one of the main reasons why I use free version of Dropbox and have no intention to purchase a bigger plan. Absolute lack of control on my desktop app. If you cannot provide local security and fix those issues, how can I trust you to provide online security? That's why I use other (safer) apps instead of Dropbox for important files. Dropbox is used for irrelevant things which can be accessed by anyone.
I cancelled my pro plan some time ago. It's indeed inconvenient that you dont care. I'm not going to use paid dropbox whilst this or such is not implemented. But will remain subscribed on this.
