Re: How to view size of Dropbox folder isn't working for me

How to view size of Dropbox folder isn't working for me

I'm trying to determine how much space my "pictures" folder is taking up by following these instructions.  However, they're not working for me.  In step 5, when I click the ellipsis, I don't see an option to "Calculate Size".  Are these instructions out of date or am I just doing it wrong?  I've attached links that show what I'm doing.  Thanks.

update.
if you click on the column headings, you can see a drop down menu.   select size.

once this column is displayed, the menu's to calculate size and everything appears.

Not working for me in Firefox.

Does viewing size only work if you sign into your Dropbox account thru Google Chrome?

Part of the DBox new update??

It works fine in Firefox. You need to change one of your columns (Modified, Who Can Access, etc.) to show Size before the options to calculate and show sizes are available.

Hi @Kimbl, this is on the Dropbox site. You need to change the columns to show Size first, and then you'll get more options to view the size of folders.

Additionally, the ellipsis you need to click is not the one at the very top when you're in the folder. You need to navigate to the parent folder see that folder in the list (as you do with your files), and click the ellipsis from there, like in the image @Rich provided.

I can't tell what you're clicking on but it doesn't appear to be the headings.

They only calculate size on files. Not on folders.

Think I worked it out.
It's not at all obvious that the menu is longer than the box it opens in. There's nothing to indicate you can scroll past the bottom of the most visible options. It wasn't until tried the elipsis on a different folder that a half an item displayed gave me the hint that the menu is longer than the display in the GUI.
@dropbox might need to do some work to add a scroll bar.
Interestingly also the menu is different for different folders. Once you have calculated size on a folder that calculate size option disappears off the menu. Presumably it will do so forever and update as the folder size changes? As there's no way to turn it off/on or recalculate.
Why you wouldn't display folder size all the time rather than having people calculate it manually is a bit of a mystery but I'm sure there's a reason.
Thanks to those who chimed in.
