Your device storage is full

In the Dropbox app under Photos, my iPhone says:

However, my Dropbox has 1.81 GB free:

Also, my iPhone has 481.6 MB free:

I've been a Dropbox user for over a decade and am well aware of what it means for my Dropbox to be full. But what does it mean for my "device" storage to be full?

It means exactly that - your phone doesnt have enough free space for it to continue to run I'm afraid. So even though you have 400mb or so you will need to free up some more space.

Thank you for your reply Mark. I'll certainly try freeing up space on my iPhone to see if that allows me to resume camera uploads.

On my laptop, my Dropbox folder is identical to my Dropbox. However, on my iPhone, Dropbox stores only 95 MB out of the 11.8 GB (plus 205 MB for the app itself). It's not intuitive that the app would need the device to free up an additional 400+ MB.

If I may ask, I’m having the same issue and I still have questions.

Currently uploading images from phone camera roll, and i’m constantly having to clear up phone storage because of this message.

Why is Dropbox creating doubled storage in my own photos?
Why does it matter? Isn’t it a cloud service?

Hey @YeeM, thanks for the nudge here.

The Dropbox app needs at least 500mb of free device space to work correctly.

Can you confirm that you have at least that amount of free space?

I have 133 gigabytes available, yet Dropbox is telling me that my device storage is full.

I'm on 354.4.2.

Get your poor work together, Dropbox. I'm seriously considering jumping ship.

Hey @Arkadiy K., are you receiving this particular error when trying to add new files to your Dropbox app, or is it always showing there, when opening your Photos tab?

Have you cleared your Dropbox app’s cache, and reinstalled the app, and it still shows?

Hi

Similar problem here - Dropbox is showing as occupying 13GB of space on my iphone. I have 36GB left and yet its telling me its full.  Two questions if I may please:

1.  Why is it using 13GB and how can I move everything to the Cloud?

2. Why is it telling me my iPhone is full?

Thanks!

Pete

Update - I'ver cleared the cache. Thats reduced it to 6GB, but still would like that 6 to be zero!  Thanks again

Hey @Meribelman, is it possible that you have made some of your files available offline on the Dropbox app?

You can use these steps to find any offline files.
