W11: not possible anymore to open encrypted files via good (old) boxcryptor.
no matter which filetype and when it was last changed.
Was possible without any problems before the update for the last 8+years
Installing non beta 185 doesn't solve this.
Moving the encrypted folder out of dropbox everything is fine again.
Maybe related to problem in mac, since there is no preview of files either https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-desktop-client-builds/Beta-Build-186-3-6103/td-p/722282
Hey @Martin F.21, thanks for flagging this with us.
Could you let us know some additional information so that we can assist further?
For example, which version of the Dropbox desktop app are you running at the moment and what's your computer exact OS version?
Also, could you send us a screenshot of any error you might be getting so that we can have a look too?
Thanks!
Walter

Hi Walter,
thanks for getting back that fast.
my system:
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 22H2
Installiert am 05.10.2022
Betriebssystembuild 22621.2428
with latest updates from 2023-10
now I have downgraded dropbox latest beta to 185.4.6054 with offline installer because even after setting "do not use beta" in customer account, the small installer installed the beta again - maybe I was simply to fast..
problem example for image files:
- there are no previews anymore
- when trying to open this error is shown
copying it to another location outside of synced folder and decrypt the Folder/file there, everything is fine. The same it was before dropbox update within synced folders...
I also try reverting a .net update but here was no success either...
Hey @Martin F.21, sorry to jump in here.
Are the files that are giving you this issue set to 'available offline' or to 'online-only'?
Also, if you close the Dropbox app completely, does the issue persist?

Hi Hannah,
thanks for getting back.
Its also for offline files.
It still persists when dropbox is closed (no more tasks visible in task manager)
After upgrade to beta there where some indexing and sync processes (but I'm not sure for all files?)
but when looking into the file properties, files were not changed (old ones have old dates)
just deinstalled boxcrayptor and reinstalled it.
Same behaviour: within dropbox path I can't open files encrypted files, copying them to another location everything is fine.
when looking into file properties from all (many) files:
- the change date did not change
- the last access was on the day of dropbox update (even for files I can garantie that I didnt open them for several month/nor looked into their folder)
just an idea with the observation named above:
was there a change in beta on a not that visible topic, e.g. how file pathes were handeled?
-> Or any other thing that does not change the "last change date" of a file
but modify some (meta) properties which does not lead to change of the "last change date" of the files?
Maybe the introduction of the new state symbols may make such a (tiny) change?
A thing that is not reverted when installing a non beta version again?
Thanks for the update here, Martin.
Hmm, the thing here is that if the Dropbox application is completely closed and the issue persists, it doesn't sound like the issue is Dropbox related.
It might sound unimportant, but have you restarted the computer at all ever since this started happening?
