Having trouble moving my files out of dropbox

I'm trying to remove my files from dropbox and don't seem to be able to make this work. Am not super savvy about this. Have the app downloaded to my hard drive and want to transfer files to an external hard drive but I just get a shortcut to the file and not the actual file. Any suggestions?

Right-click your files (or the folders they're in) and select Available Offline. Wait for the files to fully sync (will show a green check mark), then move them to your external drive.
