Hey everyone! 🌟 It’s Theresa here. You’ve probably seen me hanging out in the Community, jumping into conversations and joining discussions (if you haven’t seen me before, well, hello 👋). And while doing that, I’ve noticed something pretty great (well, we all have here on the Dropbox Community Team) – so many of you are out here making this Community an amazing place. Whether you're helping others, sharing useful tips, or just bringing good vibes ✨, your contributions really stand out. To recognise and celebrate this, we’ve created a brand-new badge… This badge is all about celebrating the people who make this space feel like home. It’s for those who do more than just answer questions – the ones who offer a helping hand 🤝, share great tips 💡, and keep the good vibes flowing. Whether you're solving tricky problems 🧩, sharing useful resources 📚, or just making the Community a fun place to hang out 😃, we see you and we appreciate you. The Community Spirit Badge is a one-time award 🏆, so if you earn it, you know you're doing something special. It's a little extra recognition for those who truly bring the Community to life. We’re so excited 🎊 to launch this new badge and can’t wait to start recognizing the amazing individuals who truly bring the spirit of this Community to life. And if you spot someone who you think deserves the Community Spirit Badge, don’t hesitate to tag me T_theresa_A within the thread. I've inherited a Dropbox Advanced environment and am quite a noob here, so maybe I asking something dumb, but: in the admin console, I can see all users and groups, and I see a choice for "content." I click on that, and I can see some "Team Folders" that correspond to group names, and I can drill down through the folder tree and see individiual files. Then, there are many many many "Shared Folders" that don't let me do that. What do I do to get access to those files, if needed? I've a long sysadmin history back to NT3.51, and I've never seen a file structure that didn't let the sysadmin see everything.72Views0likes6CommentsMy personal account was accidentally merged into a Business Account
I have a personal Dropbox account for my work as a journalist. My business partner created a new Business Account and invited me to join only to access certain files. When I went to accept the system asked to "merge" the accounts and not understanding what that meant, I clicked yes. Then Dropbox notified me that my personal account was closed and they were refunding me my fee. How do I extricate myself from this? I do not want to own the Business Account or have that for my own Dropbox, I only need access to it. How do I restore my Personal account and revive the subscription? The person who created the new business account says it was a mistake, but doesn't know how to fix it and one can't "call" Dropbox, nor is there a way to change accounts. Recently we have added two entry level members to our firm. We purchased licenses for them and wanted to add them to SOME Dropbox folders pertinent to their work. Unfortunately, Dropbox is telling me that the only way to add a person is to add a new person to the Team and this gives them access to EVERY folder in the firm's Dropbox. The only fix is to add a new person then delete the Team access to the folder and then individually reinvite people to each folder. How can Dropbox think this is a good idea? A person joining on their first day has access to most secret information the firm has, if only temporarily it's still a bad idea. Not to mention the vast amount of time and data consumed deleting off the Managing Partners and Partners and then having them resync and download. There's got to be a better way. Dropbox suggested that all new employees could have individual plans but that's just silly and an administrative burden.Solved81Views0likes3CommentsRestricting the Dropbox desktop app to permitted (company) devices
I have dropbox business for our office and am trying to limit access/installation to company-issued devices. We don't want our employees to install and sync company dropbox account onto their own personal devices due to security reasons. Quite simply, company files are one lost and unsecured computer / laptop away from being lost to the real world. Is there a way to do this?114Views0likes4CommentsMass Deletion - Alert page, File Activity log, and admin Content view need more information
Trying to undo a mistaken Team Folder move outside of Dropbox, in a Team account. - There is an alert at https://www.dropbox.com/team/admin/security/alerts/ which lists the affected folders, their size, and number of files, and the date of deletion. However, there's no way to see the containing folder path (mouseover the folder for a tooltip would be nice), and clicking the folder name/icon should go to the containing folder under https://www.dropbox.com/team/admin/team_folders/home/ in order to restore the file. Instead the only action option on this page is "Check team activity to see all files". The blue Restore button just goes to the same view, instead of providing the ability to undo the entire action. - The Activity view at https://www.dropbox.com/team/admin/activity does provide path tooltips for some activities, but for the Activity type "Removed user/group from shared file/folder" or "Deleted shared folder from Dropbox", does not provide the containing path. An export of the log also does not. This makes locating the folders to restore more difficult. - The admin Content page https://www.dropbox.com/team/admin/content/home is effectively a file browser, but quite limited even compared to the default Dropbox file view. Especially, there is no Date Modified, and viewing the Deleted Files, there's no Date Deleted which would be very helpful.494Views0likes2CommentsExternal users prompted to join team when shared a file
Dirty practice from Dropbox to prompt a recipient of a shared file to be asked to join your team. This prompt confuses the recipient of the file who requests to join the team and therefore Dropbox gains another paid user. This user (from another company) if added to the team by an overworked I.T. dept who isn't paying attention, then gains access to the company files. Please re-work your prompt system and remove the option to request access to join the team. We can add members to the team from the admin console and this is the most secure way to do this. This fault is obviously a great way for Dropbox to gain 'accidental' paid users at the expense of security. I receive a few of these emails each month and each time it's just Dropbox testing my intelligence again to see if I will accidentally add a totally random person to access our company files by mistake. This is absolutely not secure file storage and is designed to be misleading. It is frustrating that Dropbox is actively phishing. Disabling the ability of a user to request to join a team (from outside your company) would resolve this. It is hard to imagine a scenario where you would want to add (and pay for) an external user to your team. If you did need this feature, it would be a deliberate action and the cost involved would need to be approved (an ongoing subscription - the worst kind of cost). Email requests from external users would of course be ignored and make no impact on the purchase of the license. The current short term fix i can suggest is just setting Dropbox emails to block/spam/autodelete. Thanks for reading this far.333Views0likes4Comments
