Here's the essence of the problem: I have DropBox Pro installed on an iPhone 5s, iPad Air, MacBook Pro and Windows desktop computer. I do NOT want to clog up my iPhone, iPad and MacBook with files from DropBox. I want to simply upload and then delete them from the mobile devices. I'd like to use automatic Camera Upload but when I delete the photos from my iPhone or iPad I do NOT want them deleted from DropBox...as has happened on numerous occasions (most recently when I exchanged a broken iPhone for a new one and then tried to copy content from one to the other and subsequently delete unwanted photos...on the iPhone, not "unwanted" from my DropBox space). So how do I do a one way sync? Keep in mind that after photos appear in the Camera Upload folder, I MOVE them to a different desired location...and when they're deleted from my iPhone, they are still deleted from the new location!Solved132KViews9likes45CommentsHow do I download my Dropbox files and then safely delete them from my account?
I want to move all my photos/files from dropbox to an external hard drive, remove them from my dropbox without delete any photos by mistake or anything. This is to organize my photos and files properly, so I can use my dropbox as a temporarily back up for my more recent photos which is why I wanted to use dropbox as in the first place! There are several photos on my dropbox that doesn't show in my dropbox-app for my pc but I have a lot of old pictures there and I don't want to delete them, only remove them from dropbox and keep them on my computer. I have approximately 231 recent photos(on my phone) that I can't save on my dropbox because I don't have enough space. But I don't want to upgrade since I don't really need that much space. I just want to transfer them to an external hard drive via my computer. I'm not good in English, but I hope someone understand what I want to do and can help me!Solved110KViews15likes69CommentsHow do I delete files from Dropbox without deleting them from my computer and other devices?
I do not use Dropbox for backup storage; I use a different service for that. But friends and fellow students sometimes want to share files in Dropbox, so I set up a free account. Somehow, I don't know how, Dropbox uploaded some of my photos to the cloud and filled up my basic Dropbox space. I would like to take my photos out of Dropbox WITHOUT DELETING THEM FROM MY COMPUTER or other devices. This would give me the Dropbox space that I need for sharing. But when I try to do that, Dropbox says that it will delete my photos from all my devices! No, we didn’t. Now that the clickbait worked, let’s get into the meat of the article. I know there’s a lot of frustration about how ‘Dropbox deleted all my files’. I accept it’s hard to lose files, especially if they’re vital for your business, precious family or baby pictures, or even your favorite cryptocurrency digital wallet. We’ve received emails, calls, and forum threads stating the same as the title. Users are insistent that we did the deletions. However, as other Dropboxers have posted here have said, and while it makes me seem robotic to repeat the same answer, this is the truth: Dropbox does not delete your files, without any user interaction on them. The latter part of that sentence is paramount. If you, or someone else with access to those files, deletes them, then Dropbox does what it’s supposed to do, and syncs the deletion to all devices and users.Solved79KViews7likes22CommentsHow can I report a shared link with illegal nude photos?

Something very weird just happened with my dropbox account. Out of nowhere, a folder which was deletec about 2 years ago re appeared on my dropbox. It has the files as they were, which makes me wonder why the hell dropbox is still keeping these files after a few years that they have been deleted? First I thought it was a hack, but then I checked all my devices and what was accessing my account and indeed, everything was as it was before. It makes me think this is a serious bug and on another note, why the hell is dropbox keeping data that was deleted 2 years ago? I'll surprised, scared and angry at the same time. I'm not even sure where to begin! I'm now wondering about several of my clients that use dropbox in their business if the same happens.Solved62KViews0likes116CommentsIs it safe to delete dropbox cache old files?
$ dropbox version Dropbox daemon version: 99.4.501 Dropbox command-line interface version: 2019.02.14 I'm running Fedora 32 on my main workstation with a 'normal' Dropbox installation, but a fairly small SSD drive. My disk hit 100% today when someone in our team dumped many Gb of data into a shared folder. I used the CLI to `dropbox exclude path/to/huge/files` and they did get removed from my drive (great!) but my disk still appeared full. Investigating, I found 297 files occupying 15Gb in ~/Dropbox/.dropbox.cache/old_files. I don't know if they are related to this problem, their modification times are from 5 days ago. They all have machine-readable names like 16ca69b67850264f29600d17d921b732 but I can tell they're the original files that were in the shared folder. I don't see any kind of "clean cache" command in the CLI help. Is it safe to delete these files? Thank you!Solved57KViews1like7CommentsDeleted folders keep reappearing
I'm hoping someone can help with this problem. I have been using Dropbox for a few years across a number of devices (2 desktop Macs, a laptop, an iPhone and an iPad). This last week, when I try to delete a folder it reappears a moment later. If I move it into another folder, the same thing happens. I have checked and all my other devices are switched off or not trying to sync while I am doing this. Any advice on how to stop it? Thanks!Solved55KViews2likes83CommentsHow to permanently delete files or empty your trash bin without waiting for 30 days
How to permanently delete files or empty your trash bin without waiting for 30 days This actually works and I added a few things to clarify. Per Mark Mc (SUPER USER): Completely ignore that Trash folder. Go to the link I gave (www.dropbox.com/home) There navigate to the folders where your were files are that you want permanently deleting Click on 'Show Deleted Items' - at the top, its a little trash can That shows, in grey, your deleted items. At this point you will see all deleted items in all folders of your Dropbox mixed in with your active items. Click on one so it highlights, not the name of the item but the blank space after it. Press 'Permanently Delete' listed at the top. If you want to delete a batch, use the SHIFT or CTRL plus the mouse to choose or un-choose what you want to delete. For example, I clicked the top item and then scrolled down to the bottom and pressed SHIFT while clicking the last item. I could have permanently deleted everything but I need to remove the choosing of several items. For that I pressed CTRL and clicked each item. Then I clicked 'Permanently Delete' listed at the top. I had to do this within each folder to delete everything I wished to remove permanently. It is a pain but it is better than nothing.Solved49KViews1like22Comments
