I am working with dropbox for over 8 years but since last few weeks some sci-fi things are blocking my workflow with dropbox. I saw cloud icon w/arrow pointing down next to some (random) folders & files. those files are not available when I switch off wifi. I can't find any option in the settings to switch off that. I still have lots of free storage space. I need to have everything offline on every device. I think it came with the last update. It's reall a mess. How do I turn it off?Solved16KViews3likes29CommentsUpdating a file changes the link...
I noticed today that editing a file and resaving it without changing the name now changes the Dropbox link, and it definitely didn't used to do that before. That was one of the great things with Dropbox, you could update a document without having to worry about whoever had the shared link needing to get a new one.Solved4.2KViews3likes6CommentsFiles failing to save in Dropbox
I keep having this problem. I'll be working on a document or powerpoint and try to save it in Dropbox, and it just...won't save. It doesn't seem to happen if it's a document that was already saved in Dropbox, and I am updating it. It only happens when I try to save a brand new document, or when I try to save a document under a new name (which basically makes it a brand new document). I'll do "save as," set it to save in a Dropbox folder, and title the document 5M.docx, and it sets to work doing that...and then it just reverts back to being an untitled document, and when I look in the folder, the document is not saved in there. This is obviously a huge problem--I've lost work to this several times. This never happens except when I'm trying to save in my Dropbox folder--it's definitely specific to Dropbox. It doesn't do this every time I try to save something to Dropbox, but it does it a decent percentage of the time. When it happens, I have to save the **bleep** document on my desktop instead, and then drag it into the Dropbox folder, which works fine. I haven't been able to find anyone else talking about this problem! Does anyone know what is going on and how I can get this to stop happening?8.6KViews3likes36CommentsUnable to Sync Files after enabling, Dropbox Backup
I used Dropbox to sync my files across multiple devices. A couple of days ago, I got a prompt to backup my files through dropbox backup and I clicked "yes." It converted all of my synced files to be files that were backed up instead. When I realized my error, I tried to reverse it, but now the only option when I right click files on my computer is "Back up to Dropbox..." I no longer have the option to "Sync to Dropbox." When I try to drag files into dropbox, it either creates a shortcut or moves the files from my computer to dropbox. How do I get my files to sync again? I tried multiple things including deleting my original dropbox account and creating a new one. Even with a new account, there is no option to sync my files.Solved2.3KViews2likes9CommentsIs there an automatic date change to current date when uploading?
Why this automatic change of date to current date when upload files to Dropbox -- no other cloud type storage system does this date change? I use both Safari & Windows (depending which laptop I use at time) to do these file uploads. Its a pain in butt that it changes date so I have to upload then go in and modify to date I want. -- I've read about some synching option but not relevant. I see others have raised this issue but no real ownership by DropBox to fix it seems? Has anyone found a way to turn off this auto date change function?Solved2.3KViews2likes11CommentsToo many file name restrictions in Dropbox to be a useful backup
I have just seen the long list of Dropbox file and folder recommendations, which is basically a do-not-use list of four main headings which include 20+ forbidden file and folder names. I had just signed up for a 2TB account, which I will not renew if this does not get fixed. I use other cloud backups and none has this problem. I wouldn't have the time to go back and rename all my files that may use a dash (-), asterisk or other symbols. Sometimes the folder itself will be rejected, but if you select the files in inside the folder and drag THEM into dropbox into an identically named folder, they'll go in no problem. This must be fixed. Who has time to make all these corrections?790Views2likes2CommentsGreen tick with white backround
I've been a user and paid subscriber to Dropbox for about a decade. I use Drobox for sharing my files across multiple devices and occasionally for sharing files with other people who don't always have Dropbox accounts. I don't work as part of an organisation so I don't use any of the team or business related features. I often recommend people use Dropbox over other cloud storage as I've always been impressed with Dropbox. I've just started seeing the normal green background tick replaced with a white background tick on multiple files and folders. According to the help pages these white background ticks can only appear on folders yet I have them on multiple files. The help page says this green tick with a white background and green circle 'Contains files that are both available offline and online-only. A white circle with a green outline and a green checkmark can only appear on a folder. It means the folder contains a mix of files and folders that are âavailable offlineâ and âonline-onlyâ.' Looking at the files it looks like some of these are files I've previously shared with other people but that doesnât match the description here. My recolection is the shared folders had a different icon but that seems to have changed. What would be nice would be for a company to be consistent with their icons rather that occasionally going for a total redesign just because someone has said it's fashionable to have a new look. If you have to have a new look please, at least, keep the basic symbolism consistent with the past for the sake of your long term loyal customers. When you do release an update please also release an update of the help files as the statement that 'A white circle with a green outline and a green checkmark can only appear on a folder' is not true as I have it all over my files.11KViews2likes6CommentsFile (Pic) Upload without providing Name and Email
Hi everyone. I would like to create a folder that people can upload pictures to for a party. I plan on using the "File Request" feature in Dropbox and provide the link via QR code, but would prefer if the people didNOT have to enter their name and email. Is this an option?1.4KViews2likes4Comments
