107 TopicsDropbox update has caused Windows File Explorer to slow so badly I cannot work
Ever since this update was forced upon us, my File Explorer no longer works properly. It takes forever to load with a green bar at the top and white icons. When it does finally load, if I click on a file to either open it or copy it or whatever, I get the blue donut and nothing happens for ages. I have to go away and do something else for 5 or 10 minutes before it will finally allow me to right-click or open it. I am beyond frustrated now. It took me over an hour to complete a simple copy and paste task this morning that would normally take less than 5 minutes. I simply cannot run my business this way. I've tried various things such as the obvious rebooting etc. I also tried to rename the Shell Icon Overlays as there is apparently a limit in Windows and Dropbox was apparently causing an overlay limit conflict. I also cleared my thumbnail/icon cache. Nothing I do is working. It's awful and I hate the change. I just want it to work. File Explorer isn't great at the best of times as it's so unreliable and I've always had to restart it 2 or 3 times a day. But now it's not working for me at all. Please can someone help? I am incredibly busy at work and have now wasted a good 4 hours on this. I really desperately need to get on with my work. I'm using Windows 10 Pro and it's up to date.650Views5likes12CommentsDropbox Sync status on folders missing / Context menu missing

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro computer, running iOS 15.3.1. I migrated most of my files from my prior computer, using Migration Assistant. Created a new folder in Dropbox on my iPad, and the contents appeared on Dropbox.com, but will not show up on my laptop. I tried pausing syncing, then restarting, rebooting my computer, then finally uninstalling the Desktop Dropbox application and reinstalling it with the most current version. It seems that one thing the may have been limiting Dropbox was that I was using Dropbox Basic, and somewhere along the way that was limited to only 3 devices, and I have Dropbox linked to 5 devices. So I also upgraded to Dropbox Plus, which allows multiple devices to sync. My computer went through the whole sync process, and says everything is up to date, but only about 75-80% of my folders and 75-80% of the files in those folders are syncing, and it seems very random. Some folders do not even appear on my MacBook Pro, so I cannot right click to make the folder contents appear off line. And at least one folder, which should have 115 small files in it, is empty on my laptop. Syncing still works fine on my older computer. I have looked at online help, etc, and not found anything to fix this problem. Can anyone help?58Views0likes1CommentOnline-only settings not available under my app's preferences. What can I do?
I have Dropbox plus with V216 on windows 10 and options for online-only and smart sync do not appear under the sync tab of preferences dialog, I am only shown an option to correct incompatible characters for file names. I have tried restarting and reinstalling Dropbox but problem persists. At the moment, every folder I sync is available offline on my desktop and I am out of space.131Views0likes5CommentsDefault PDF viewer on iPad
Is there a way to change the default PDF viewer in the Dropbox App for the iPad? When I click on "Open in" in a PDF, it only shows the option of Adobe, but I use PDF Expert. (In contrast, on my Mac, when I double click on a PDF in my Dropbox folder, it automatically opens in PDF Expert). If I can't change the default PDF viewer to PDF Expert on the iPad, what is the easiest way to open a PDF from Dropbox in PDF Expert? (Of course I already know that I can start IN PDF Expert and open Dropbox files there from Dropbox, which I have linked to it; but this is for when I happen to have begun from the Dropbox iPad app instead.)Solved1.6KViews2likes5CommentsMac Finder extension incompatible with Google Drive Finder helper Finder extension
I have the same issue that many other people have reported. On my MacBook Pro running MacOS 14.1.2, I have both Dropbox v189.4..8395 Personal Plus (I have never had a beta version) and Google Drive File Stream v85.0.26.0. My Dropbox sync/cloud icons are missing from my Dropbox folder. If I uncheck the Google Drive Finder helper's Finder extension, then the Dropbox sync icons immediately re-appear. However, this reduces the functionality of my Google Drive installation. I need *both* of these cloud sync systems to work. Is there a fix for this problem yet? -Marc Levoy, Stanford University and Adobe Inc.2.2KViews0likes7CommentsRandom Dropbox placeholder file on desktop
I'm trying to understand why a file called "Dropbox" just appeared on my iMac desktop. It looks like a text file, but can't be opened. Clicking on it results in the following message: "Item Dropbox is used my MacOS and can't be opened." When I "get info" on the file, it's 780 bytes. I have been rearranging some dropbox files on this computer, and just installed Dropbox on another computer. Perhaps it's related to that. Don't know if it's relevant or not, but all my files are offline as well as online It appears to be a placeholder but I've been using Dropbox for years, and haven't seen this before. Any ideas are much appreciated. Marty105Views0likes1CommentI have a Plus plan, but my desktop app shows a Basic 2GB.

But when I load The dropbox soft on my new mac, the version I got is the free one ( with 2G0 bytes). ..how can I fix that ?Solved592Views0likes6CommentsDropbox Mac OS fails to Index and/or synchronize and Update to new folder structure
Dear Dropbox Support and Community, As a long-standing Dropbox customer with a 3TB Dropbox Pro subscription, I am very surprised. When I switched my entire work environment to Mac M1/M2 chipsets (over a year ago), I simply couldn't use Dropbox anymore because syncing kept taking days, etc. In the meantime, I used competitors' products (Google, PCloud) and left my dearly paid-for DropBox subscription unused in the corner. Due to a new customer, the use/collaboration with Dropbox is once again becoming topical and necessary. And what can I say, obviously it is not possible to create a functioning software product in a year despite my freshly debited subscription fees of almost $200. Although I did a complete clean install on my Mac M1 Studio and the Macbook Pro M2, following the instructions on the internet, and selected only very small folders with 4-6 files and under 1 GB for the first synchronization, I (like many others in this forum) get stuck at an infinite indexation. I have installed version v208.4.5824 on both devices. I not only did a clean install but also removed all devices from the Dropbox security settings beforehand. Both devices have more than enough hard disk space. Both the βonline onlyβ and βavailable offlineβ synchronization options were tried. Different folders were selected on both devices to avoid a possible conflict here as well. Both devices synchronize into the βoldβ folder under βUsers/xxx/Dropboxβ, because the update for the Dropbox folder according to the new Mac OS 14.6.1 fails miserably and every time it tells me that the update for macOS with file providers cannot yet be carried out. I can only wonder how DropBox can continue to offer such a mess and is not ashamed when they debit my subscription fees annually. I hope for help from the community, as even the support e-mails in March 2023 were fruitless and just infuriated me. Shame on you, Dropbox.504Views0likes3Comments
