Dropbox Rewind
83 TopicsThe support team said that our folder has been rolled back, but this isn't true.
A few days ago, one of our main folders containing 2.7 TB of data was deleted on its own and also disappeared from the Deleted Files folder. We tried using the Rewind feature as well as restoring it through Dropbox Events, but nothing worked. We also contacted Dropbox Support, and they told us they would roll back the folder to a specific event. However, even after receiving two emails from their technical team confirming the rollback, nothing has changed on our account — no files or folders were recovered. Can someone please help us with this issue? Our ticket ID is 25578244. Thank you.180Views0likes16CommentsIs there a better way to use Dropbox Rewind to find a specific time/date?
Hello! I love Dropbox, been using it forever. The ability to revert files/folders to a prior time has saved my bacon on more than one occasion, lol. However... the rewind feature is agonizing to configure. Is there any better way to specify the point in time? Because I wanted to roll back a folder, and that folder has been modified throughout the day by a scheduled process so I go to the folder, right click, activity, click the rewind icon (which, BTW, is absurdly small and difficult for people unfamiliar with it to locate) and I pick today. Problem is, it is 1:33 PM now and I need to roll back to 10:36 AM. I had to go to the bottom of the list and hit "show older" like 40+ times. I'd like to say it's hyperbole, but that is a pretty accurate count. It was soooooooo painful. Why in God's name is there not a step where after picking day you can choose a time stamp with which to target the bar? Like if I enter 10:30 AM it would start the bar at 10:30 AM with some entries loaded ahead and some after then I can scroll down to "show other" and scroll up and have a "show newer". It is entirely possible there IS a better way and I just am unaware of it so I figured I'd come ask the community. Is there? Thanks!71Views0likes2CommentsHow can I recover files deleted 3 years ago?
I'm on a free plan right now. In '22 I sold my biz and along with it, all the dropbox files I used to had (LOTS). Before transferring all the files to the new owner, I downloaded a giant folder full of personal stuff, then deleted it from Dropbox. I just realized that the file I downloaded was put on an external drive that was thrown away. The new owner is happy to help me restore the folder if possible, but is it? I saw an add-on that allows us to go all the way back 10y to restore files, but is that an add-on that had to be purchased when I started? Can I buy it now, then restore my folder? Any other ideas?72Views0likes1CommentA client's account was accessed by someone else and they can't recover their files
A client of mine has ask me to help troubleshoot a Dropbox hack. She says that it was a ransomware attack and that Dropbox wasn't able to help her recover deleted files. I've included a section of the message she got from Dropbox support, but I have a question. I thought that Dropbox had a "rewind" function that could restore an account to previous point in time before a hack occurred. Does this function not apply to a case like this? Message section: "Permanently Deleted Data: On the website, there is an option to permanently delete files that overrides any backups we have. It's included as a feature, as many people and companies must abide by regulations that state they must not possess (or have the means to recreate) certain data at any given time. As this is the feature that was used, as soon as this action was taken the files were permanently removed from the server. I'm truly sorry, I'm unable to help you with this restoration, as this data has been purged from our servers. As you can imagine, regardless of who 'pushes the button', the effect is the same. This is why we place such importance on account security."127Views0likes4CommentsDropbox Rewind restores files, but then files are deleted?
Actually not sure what is deleting them but most my files were missing when I upgraded to Windows 11. I was able to get them all back using Dropbox Rewind. But something keeps taking them away? I see the delete action in the rewind browser but I don't know what is deleting the files. do I need to do something after a rewind to keep it that way?130Views0likes6CommentsCan I rewind an entire folder at once?

Can I use Dropbox Rewind to undo it?
I just logged onto my old laptop -not used for a couple of years. Realised dropbox was connected and updating and stopped it. But a bit later I got notifications on my usual computer that 1k plus folders had been added to a shared folder. Another user had been through the shared folders and deleted lots of old files a few months ago. Seemingly I have added them all back .... obviously I will not be popular. I have been looking at 'rewind' -I used it before (someone deleted the shared folder) but now it seems that I can't use that with my basic account. I don't really use dropbox for personal use -just for this shared folder. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do? What is the cheapest way of me sorting this out? If I took out a months subscription just to use rewind - could I cancel it after? Would rewind work - seeing as I have already done this - and I would need to go back to before I subscribed. Could I do that even though I am not the 'owner' of the shared the folder? (Have edit permissions) Help!Solved463Views0likes3Comments
