222 TopicsHow to receive large files (around 120 GB) from a client with a free, Basic Dropbox account?
Hello everyone, I need to receive about 120 GB of files from a client via Dropbox. However, I suspect the client might only have a free Dropbox account—or maybe doesn’t have one at all. I know that using the “File Request” feature only allows uploads up to 2 GB per request. Could anyone advise the best way to receive such a large amount of data smoothly under these limitations? Hello, I am sick of the torrent of emails and red badges reminding me that I just created a transfer, someone downloaded the transfer I sent them to download, or the transfer is expiring etc. I want to turn off all of these emails with a toggle in the app. The numerous other posts and requests about this issue (dating back to the late 2010's) have gone unresolved, so I'm adding my voice here. Someone sent me a dropbox transfer file link, and supposedly my email is listed on the team, but when I click on the link, it says "Error, we can't find the page you're looking for". As I've written before, I love dropbox – but I hate anytime I have to use it through a browser – for example, to change settings, manage Dropbox Transfers, use Replay, etc. There are so many problems, so many pain points, so many frustrations. If you tested on just three people, I'm sure you would come up with a list of at least 20 things to improve. A few off the top of my head: You cannot batch-delete transfers, forced to delete one-by-one, in a three-click process You cannot change the default expiration date for transfers It's almost impossible to find how to navigate to Dropbox Transfer, Replay, etc. The branding options are 20 years behind Etc, etc It's shocking that a company of your size could last so long with these flaws. Would like to see a way to share ownership of a Transfer. We have a team that uses Transfer regularly to send files externally, but have no way for those team members to know what each person sent (they are not admins, nor should they be). Is it possible to create co-owners of Transfers to allow multiple individuals to manage Transfers together? Recently my dropbox app asked me to move all of its folders to "locations" in finder, instead of the simple shortcut folder in "favorites" where it used to be beforehand. I agreed, cause it basically looks more tidy and logical that way – however this also removed the option to right-click any file or folder on my computer and get my favorite dropbox functions. As I understand it from reading this forum – that's expected behavior, I now only get the right-click menu when I'm in the actual dropbox folder. I can see how some of the sub menu options are only necessary when in the dropbox section of finder, but I'm very sad to see that the "share" and "transfer a copy" menu are gone for my other non-dropbox folders in finder. This was an absolute productivity game changer for me, and legit one of my most used dropbox functionalities. It used to be: I want to transfer X file to a client (unrelated to my specific dropbox folders) so I right-click, click transfer and there it is; right in a separate finder window with no browser, no logging in,... Now I have to use the old school wetransfer-like workflow of first going to my browser etc, it's just not really progress I find. The new Transfer Window animation where it animates the files being packaged up in a gift box is unnecessary and is adding sometimes upwards of 15 seconds while I wait for the "copy link" button to be available. This used to be a nearly instantaneous process with no delay. All of my files are already uploaded to dropbox and indicate this with a green check-mark in my dropbox folder on my mac. Then, when I choose "Transfer a Copy", and then click on "Create Link" in the bottom right of the Dropbox Transfer window that opens, I sometimes have to wait 15 seconds for the silly new animation to finish. Why? This aspect of Transfer worked perfectly before. This slow-down in functionality seems un-necessary. Please get rid of the anmiation and just allow us to get quick access to the link so we can copy it and email our clients. I shared five links with a Basic account, all of which were supposed to expire tomorrow (29 April 2025). However I received an email today notifying me that they hadn't been downloaded yet. In response, I upgraded my account to a Standard plan to extend the expiration date. But now, all of the links have disappeared. I can't find them in the bin, the expired section, or anywhere else. Even when I try to open the file by clicking on the 'Manage Transfer' link in the email I received when I originally shared it, I just get an empty transfers page. I'm extremely frustrated and upset.
