Dropbox Vault
111 TopicsRetain Vault!
There are so many reasons to continue Vault but a key one is that the Dropbox folder on a PC (and a Mac?) is not protected by Windows or iOs in any normal way. Vault made protection possible for key files. But of course being able to protect the entire Dropbox folder on a PC or Mac would be an even better idea!Solved1.6KViews14likes33CommentsHow can I encrypt a specific Dropbox folder?
How do I password protect a specific folder. I have my dropbox synced to my pc and I would like additional security on a single folder with private information, if my PC is hacked, or my account is accessed. Dropbox used to have this functionality by creating an encrypted "vault"; now my "vault" just reverted to a regular folder. I upgraded for the premium version with all functionality so I could add back this function, but I can't seem to figure it out, it only shows how to password protect a shared folder from other users, but when I search for how to encrypt a specific folder within my own dropbox account with additional security, it just send me to promotional websites.Solved221Views1like2CommentsI don't like that Dropbox Capture and Vault were discontinued.
It looks like now Capture has been discontinued along with Vault. I loved Vault and Capture. In my mind, these were 2 things that made Dropbox unique and nice to keep around as a platform that wasn't associated with Microsoft or Google as far as I know. I'm wondering where Dropbox is headed. ☹️ Top Management: We love your product, but please stop axing the things that we love about it.126Views2likes2Comments- 7.1KViews18likes37Comments
Vault termination
It seems like Dropbox is about to do it again. After removing the strong integration with Google Docs, causing many customers to all of a sudden have to work with links instead of documents, Dropbox is now planning for the termination of Vault (end of March '25). Did you like the function that allowed you to keep some files extra safe in a fully encrypted and PIN-locked container on your dropbox ? Yes ? Well tough for you! Remarkably, Dropbox now claims it will automatically move the files you have stored in your vault to a normal folder on your regular dropbox. Oh really? I guess that means Dropbox has full access to my vault then, and can just move files around as they see fit ? That is quite alarming for a functionality that is supposed to be fully encrypted. Really Dropbox, this is NOT how you obtain customer satisfaction or loyalty. I've been using your service for about 20 years now, but I'm actively checking out alternatives.Solved4.2KViews30likes73CommentsGoing back to the Basic plan. Will my shared folders be deleted?
Hello all, My question is essentially that I have two shared folders with other individuals. If I were to go back to Basic it says that my files might be deleted, but they aren't folders I own. I guess I want some clarification that I won't delete someone elses access to the files just my own. I don't own the folders. ThanksSolved142Views0likes2CommentsHow do you add a password to files and/or folders to keep it secured?
So, Dropbox got rid of the vault feature last month. The question now becomes, how do you add a password to files and/or folders to keep it secured? At a minimum, Windows lets you password protect a file, so if Dropbox can't even do that now what's the point of it? Additionally, I am logged out of Dropbox on my computer, but can still access my Dropbox drive from My Computer. With the vault gone, how do I make sure that these files are only accessible either on Dropbox website or only if I'm logged in?76Views0likes1CommentHow can I keep my files secure without Dropbox Vault? Any alternatives?
Hi to all the community! I have just received an e-mail from Dropbox telling that the "Vault" folder/service is going to be discontinued from March the xxth (can't remember the exact date). Hate this, because my tranquility depends on it. My proceeding: -Upload a folder every week with my works. Open Vault, move the uploaded folder to it, close DB. So the folders with my works are (were) protected from any kind of attack (like encrypting my local PCs). My thoughts were that if my PCs suffer an encrypting attack, dropbox files would be updated with the encrypted version so they would be useless. Am I right? After the Vault disabling I have thought an alternative: To make read only (and "unable to delete") the folders I want to prevent any kind of attack. Is there any way to achieve this? TIA!Solved2.9KViews2likes14CommentsAbility to password-protect folders within Dropbox
Now that Vault is being discontinued, I think it would be useful to have the ability to password-protect folders within Dropbox itself. I know you can password-protect folders when sharing them, but I'd like the ability to password-protect individual folders in Dropbox, to add additional security. I store client information, financial information for taxes, etc. on Dropbox and while I password-protect individual files, I'd like to be able to password-protect full folders too, just for the added layer of security.114Views1like2Comments
