I’m in my final year of high school and my cohort has started a Dropbox to compile everyone’s photos for the whole year. I think it would be really cool to be able to say find all the photos of me, or the photo of me and Person A. Similar of like how you can search by people on the Apple photos app. We have hundreds of photos and sorting through them is tedious. I think this could be a really cool idea.2.1KViews25likes12CommentsReverse Image Search
I spend countless hours searching for source images and having the ability to upload an image to use as a search would save a tremendous amount of time. I would love the ability to upload an image into the search field and have dropbox show me all instances of said image at all sizes and formats.6.7KViews12likes5CommentsEnable create and rename folders/files on MacOS Dropbox application for admin users
After a recent dropbox update, at the top level, admin users are unable to create and rename files on their desktop dropbox application for Mac users (OS version: Sequoia 15.3.2). This slight change has made it more of a hassle to use the desktop app, it makes it appear obsolete to be honest. My team needs a number of folders to created frequently as we get new cases quite frequently. After the new update, as the admin user, I have to navigate to my web browser in order to create a folder and then come back to my desktop app to add all the relevant documents into that folder. If I make a mistake in the name of the folder, I can't change the name of the folder I have to go back to web browser, find the folder and then change it from there. It is such that even as an admin user on my computer, when I go to unlock the folder at the top level to give me read and write access, it automatically switches back as it is something that has been enabled from the software and not the user end. I could see the justification for having this restriction for non-admin users but for admin users whose job description requires the creation and modification of top level files, it has added an additional step in work flow that is cumbersome. In the past, all these could be done directly from the desktop app. I would like to request that the feature be put back as it was. The new change is not user friendly at all.384Views4likes11CommentsLocal links
Problem In our Dropbox Business account, we often need to share links to files or folders with colleagues who already have access and have Dropbox installed. Currently: When we use the “Share” feature, the link opens in the browser. This is inefficient when the user just needs to open the local file/folder, especially for deeply nested folders. Or worse, the person sends the file as an email, and now we have multiple versions and confusion about which is the "source of truth". Workaround: We have to manually send them the file path (e.g., /Users/bob/Dropbox/ProjectX/Report.docx), which: Requires the recipient to hunt it down in Finder/Explorer. Is error-prone due to path differences, renames, or accidental typos. Offers a worse user experience than comparable tools like Google Drive File Stream, which can open the file directly via a smart link from the web. Proposed Solution Introduce a new link format — .dropboxlink files — that can be double-clicked or opened to launch the Dropbox desktop app, which then opens the file or folder locally. How it might work: The link includes a Dropbox-relative path (e.g., /ProjectX/Report.docx). When opened, the Dropbox app: Resolves the correct local file path on that device. Brings the file into sync if it’s online-only (with options if needed). Opens the file in its native app or highlights it in Finder/Explorer. Key Benefits Faster collaboration: Opens files/folders locally with one click. Less error-prone than copying/pasting paths. Easier onboarding: Helps users avoid learning about aliases, sync paths, or browser UX differences. Reusable: These .dropboxlink files could be stored on desktops, added to docs, or included in readme files for onboarding. Design Considerations Security: Only opens if user has access. Device-aware: Dropbox app already tracks where the folder is located per device. Fallbacks: If the file is no longer available, provide a browser fallback or a “Request Access” flow. If offline or not synced, offer user-friendly prompts (e.g. “Make available offline”).586Views3likes1CommentOne Click Backup Restore
Hello! I was under the impression that I could restore my whole backup with one click when switching to a new MacBook. It turns out, after many bugs (such as only synching one folder, and not giving me options for the others), it is not possible. I also tried downloading the folders individually - and I am met with the error " Attempted to zip too many files" particularly when trying to download and restore my Lightroom Catalog folder. I am going to revert to using offline backup via Time Machine and thankfully I still have access to my old laptop, but I am a bit disappointed to see how tricky Dropbox Backup turns out to be. Hope this helps develop solutions and a better system for the future77Views2likes1CommentTab of external users and folders they have access to in Admin Console
Running into the Issue of how do we manage multiple external users. managing external collaborators is a manual nightmare, requiring us to check each shared folder individually or parse unwieldy CSVs from External Sharing reports its driving us crazy255Views2likes6CommentsOption to automatically lock a file.
We constantly have issues with conflicted copies! Yes - even though there is the badge that shows up, and even though file locking is an option if done manually. I've done research and MANY other systems support this feature. I've been a long-time Dropbox user, but am looking aggressively at changing due to this issue. It shouldn't have to be a manual process to prevent someone else from opening the same file I am currently working on and saving a conflicted copy. Who would remember to do a manual file lock each and every time they open a document?!159Views2likes3CommentsAs an admin, I want to see the files of every member on the team
It seems a little weird to me that as an admin of our org's Dropbox environment, I do not have access to see all files. Community suggested some work-arounds - log in as user, and add myself to every folder from the admin console - but these don't scale well. What I need, and what every other file system I've ever worked with gives me, is the abilityt to see into every folder a member creates.181Views2likes2CommentsSearch a photo/video/file through the comments
For example. Lets say I have a like 20+ photos out of 1000+ and in the comments of those photos they have the word "red" in them. The Ability to search through your photos etc. using the "comments" as the "filter" there would be a search bar and I type the word "red" and it brings up all my photos with the word "red" in the comments. I hope that makes sense.138Views2likes2Comments
