File access
15 TopicsEnable create and rename folders/files on MacOS Dropbox application for admin users
After a recent dropbox update, at the top level, admin users are unable to create and rename files on their desktop dropbox application for Mac users (OS version: Sequoia 15.3.2). This slight change has made it more of a hassle to use the desktop app, it makes it appear obsolete to be honest. My team needs a number of folders to created frequently as we get new cases quite frequently. After the new update, as the admin user, I have to navigate to my web browser in order to create a folder and then come back to my desktop app to add all the relevant documents into that folder. If I make a mistake in the name of the folder, I can't change the name of the folder I have to go back to web browser, find the folder and then change it from there. It is such that even as an admin user on my computer, when I go to unlock the folder at the top level to give me read and write access, it automatically switches back as it is something that has been enabled from the software and not the user end. I could see the justification for having this restriction for non-admin users but for admin users whose job description requires the creation and modification of top level files, it has added an additional step in work flow that is cumbersome. In the past, all these could be done directly from the desktop app. I would like to request that the feature be put back as it was. The new change is not user friendly at all.95Views2likes6CommentsSecure and hidden files
It would be a great idea to implement an extra layer of protection to be able to hide certain files or be able to lock them with a set password within the app since I experience multiple users on multiple machines of mine being able to access most of the files. Therefor I would really benefit from a folder I can lock with my personal password and therefor hide sensitive information or files that should not be accessed by other users but me. I would suggest calling it something like Vault or Hidden Files. This could also be done via integration through the apps, let people decide if they want to install the vault feature or not.45Views2likes3CommentsAbility to delete files from the Signatures tab and see which team members can access them.
Dropbox signature feature - the long list of signed files on this page on dropbox.com is not transparent enough. There's no clear way to tell quickly and easily who has permission to view these files. This can be worrying for an Admin! Also, I can't delete / remove these files. When I click on the 3 dots I can only download and preview. Dropbox support confirmed the only way to delete the file is to open each one and delete from there. This is not practical with hundreds of documents being signed. We need to be able to clear / tidy this list easily - bulk delete would be awesome. Thank you.28Views0likes2CommentsSearch and sort through images with facial recognition
I’m in my final year of high school and my cohort has started a Dropbox to compile everyone’s photos for the whole year. I think it would be really cool to be able to say find all the photos of me, or the photo of me and Person A. Similar of like how you can search by people on the Apple photos app. We have hundreds of photos and sorting through them is tedious. I think this could be a really cool idea.591Views10likes5CommentsCan we have a folder/list of links to our Dropbox files on Android?
It would be quite useful to be able to compile a folder or a document with a list of links to Dropbox files that are made available locally. Imagine a speech that needs a set of texts or images to be opened in sequence. Or a performance in which it is necessary to compile a list of scores that need to be accessed quickly without browsing. The interest in just links, and not copies, is to access the latest versions adjourned in Dropbox from any of the connected devices. This is clearly possible in Windows where a folder or a .docx document can be compiled with links to Dropbox files made available locally. In Android unfortunately this is not possible. Someone suggests to make copies of the files into the local space (not Dropbox) and link to that. But this would not allow the great feature of dynamic update on Dropbox files. I have tried on my tablet to compile a file with links, but when I browse to get the link to a Dropbox file, I go nowhere. I have enquired the Dropbox assistance team and they told me that this feature is not available in Android. I think that this would be a great addition. If anyone in the community has a suggestion I would much appreciate it. Best to all. PS: In serching for a solution someone suggests to insert a path like this to locally available cash: Andoid/data/com.dropbox.android/files/USERHASH/scratch/folder/file.tx but I do not have the USERHASH and the path may be wrong.57Views1like1CommentAs an admin, I want to see the files of every member on the team
It seems a little weird to me that as an admin of our org's Dropbox environment, I do not have access to see all files. Community suggested some work-arounds - log in as user, and add myself to every folder from the admin console - but these don't scale well. What I need, and what every other file system I've ever worked with gives me, is the abilityt to see into every folder a member creates.46Views1like1CommentSearching for files using their full file-path.
Dear team Searching for files (e.g. by name) on the iOS app is very quick and good. However, once found, it would be great if we could see the full filepath of that resulting folder or file (e.g. C:\Dropbox\.... ) so that it can be quickly found on my laptop or desktop machine. Can you add this feature please? (Under the iOS app, you can select 'Show in Folder' via the three dots next to the file, but this still doesn't give visability of the full path.) Thanks if you can help.157Views1like5CommentsSearch a photo/video/file through the comments
For example. Lets say I have a like 20+ photos out of 1000+ and in the comments of those photos they have the word "red" in them. The Ability to search through your photos etc. using the "comments" as the "filter" there would be a search bar and I type the word "red" and it brings up all my photos with the word "red" in the comments. I hope that makes sense.67Views2likes1Comment
