Device (HP Pavilion, One plus Nord) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 10) Dropbox App Version (if using the app) (450.2.2) Question or Issue I am not able to see any folders or photos in dropbox, although it says that 16 GB space is occupied. same is the case with desktop and mobile app. A sleeping dog on purple cushion appears when i click on 'photos'. please help.Solved57Views0likes3CommentsHow can I see the size of my folders in the app, to check which one takes up more space?
I just want to know, how big all the files together are. Even if there are other folders included in one main folder. So for example, when the Dropbox is nearly full, i can easily see, which one's the biggest one 😅87Views0likes3CommentsDo NTFS hardlinks within the Dropbox folder increase storage?
Dropbox Plan Plus Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Windows 11 Question or Issue I need a certain structure in Dropbox. I have a folder called "Library", with lots of music in it. The Library folder is not in the root folder of Dropbox, which is a problem elsewhere. So I had a plan to create NTFS Hardlinks of the folder Library (recursively) and add the hardlinks to the root. Now I have \Music\Library and \LibraryHardlinks. Both files in each folder point to the same point on the hard disk, which means it does not increase storage usage. But how does Dropbox deal with it when uploaded? If Library is 100GB big, will the hardlinks in LibraryHardlink increase my usage by 100GB or is Dropbox smart enough to create links instead of re-uploading files and using my Dropbox storage space?94Views0likes3CommentsWhy are some files in the admin account on my Windows computer as well as the non-admin account?
Running windows 10. In my non-admin account, (let's call it "Anthony"), I have 29GB of files in the dropbox folder. In the Admin account, I don't use the dropbox location, but under the dropbox folder, there is 16.6GB of files, and all these files are in the Anthony account. Why would there be some copies in two places? Can I delete the Admin ones? I have Windows on a C: partition with 30GB free out of 200GB. The "Anthony" account user data is on a D: partition of 1.2TB with 200GB free. I'm trying to reduce the size of the Admin account which is wholly on C:. I also have several strange issues with Windows so I am looking to upgrade to Windows 11 but want to ensure not to lose any dropbox files. Because of the issues, I may need to perform a fresh install and would need to backup/restore the user profiles (%APPDATA%) somehow. In this case it would be worthwhile to reduce the size of the user profiles (which are typically on C:) I need to know that if the Admin account was recreated, as a part of a new install, that dropbox would work and I would not lose any files. I've tried all suggested methods for fixing the windows issues I have but to no avail. Numerous scans/fixnow. Repair Windows. I've recently reinstalled Windows 10, preserving apps and files. Nothing has worked. That's why I think I will end up with a fresh install. Any ideas or information would be appreciated.243Views0likes10CommentsMy account is not displaying the correct size of my folders
When I let display the folder size, sizes are displayed with a ">" (greater as) sign in front. This is no useful information. For example, the first folder is displayed with "> 599,02 MB", but in reality it is 1,74 GB! Searching folders for missing space gets difficult.Solved317Views0likes9CommentsNeed to know how many subfolders and files are nested inside any given folder, server-side
Good day we are evaluating migrating two companies from Sharepoint to Dropbox. We need a way to know how many subfolders and files are contained, server-side, under any given top-level folder. This is an extremely simple information, and it is of fundamental importance in order to check complete sync after a large file upload, download or move. Of course such information must be available rapidly, without browsing each single subfolders (there are dozens thousands) and without limiting to check desktop-side (which is entirely useless, given that we want to survey the status of data moves SERVER-SIDE). So, for instance, suppose we have: - top-level folder "A" - inside "A": 3 files and the 2 subfolders "B" and "C" - inside "B": 7 files and 1 subfolder "D" - inside "C": 5 files and 1 subfolder "E" - inside "D": 12 files and no subfolder - inside "E": 8 files and 1 subfolder "F" - inside "F": no files and no subfolders.... ... I need a way to know that inside "A" there are: - 35 files - 5 subfolders In Sharepoint it is ridiculously complex to achieve such a basic information, but at least I can use PowerShell and some additional module. $FilesCount = (Get-PnPFolderItem -FolderSiteRelativeUrl "Top-Level-Folder-Name" -Recursive -ItemType File).Count $SubFoldersCount = (Get-PnPFolderItem -FolderSiteRelativeUrl "Top-Level-Folder-Name" -Recursive -ItemType Folder).Count Write-Host "Number of files: $FilesCount" && "Number of subfolders: $SubFoldersCount" HOW exactly can I have such information with Dropbox? Many thanks Enrico Penco106Views0likes2CommentsIs it possible to have some files as online-only and others as available offline?
Hi all I use a Plus account (2TB dropbox space) I am currently syncing the desktop app on a 1TB drive. It seems that currently all of my dropbox files are synced on top of the hard disk. consuming too much space. I want to move only part of my content to "online-mode" (infrequently accessed files) and keep the daily-access files on the physical disk. Given this structure: Dropbox/folder-a - 1 GB Dropbox/folder-b - 2 GB Dropbox/folder-c - 4 GB Dropbox/folder-d - 8 GB Is it possible to have for example a and c accessible off-line (consuming disk space) while b and d are "not stored locally" so the total space consumed in Dropbox is 15 GB but the space actually consumed in the hard drive is 5 GB?Solved428Views0likes3CommentsMacOS Dropbox folder location change and free disk space discrepancy
Apparently Apple started requiring File Providers like Dropbox to move their folders to ~user/library/cloudstorage, leaving only a folder alias at the original location. This caused problems in the beginning with file searches but these finally got sorted out. What is strange is that I recently replaced my laptop and after reinstalling Dropbox, the new default folder location is where it originally was, not in library/cloudstorage, and it's no longer an alias. I'd like to change this on my [older] home computer but I'm not sure if this is wise or even supported. I should mention that I'm running the newest Dropbox beta release, and the Dropbox helpdesk is encouraging me to reinstall Dropbox using the latest 'stable' build and not the beta. Does anyone have any experience with this? Second issue is a question of free disk space. I use PathFinder instead of the Mac Finder but these two utilities give different values for the remaining free space on disk. When determining the amount of free space, the Mac Finder seems to ignore the Dropbox folder entirely wherever it might be whereas PathFinder does include it. In other words, the Mac Finder [erroneously] lists an additional amount of free space equivalent to the size of the Dropbox folder. The Mac Disk Utility agrees with PathFinder's assessment of the amount of free space. Does anyone understand why this happens?2.6KViews0likes7CommentsChoosing my Dropbox folder location and renaming it as well
I'm using Windows 11. My C drive is an SSD (solid-state drive) with limited space and my D drive is a 1 TB HDD (hard disk). Dropbox wants to put its folder on the C: drive. I'm trying to change it to D:\myusername-dropbox (where myusername is my user name). But when I go to Advanced Settings and choose "Other" to select that folder, Dropbox insists on making the path D:\myusername-dropbox\Dropbox. I don't want the longer path with the Dropbox folder as a subfolder. I also don't want D:\Dropbox because I want to include myusername (the computer has several users). How can I put the Dropbox folder at exactly D:\myusername-dropbox ? Thanks.Solved1.4KViews0likes5CommentsI'd like to sync certain folders in my Dropbox to a different drive
I know this is a frequent request, and I'm sure it will be until it's been provided! My team relies on DB a lot and we store a great deal of large files on it. At the moment I need to sync about 320GB of data, in 2GB chunks, which is a normal amount for my work. I don't have that much free storage on my system drive, and can't free it up atm, so I'm having to sync in chunks of files, then move those to my working drive and de-sync them from my system drive, rinse and repeat. I've tried downloading them in chunks from the web but they fail when my PC locks overnight. One solution is to set up DB in a VM and use that to sync certain folders to an external drive...but is that really the best way, when DB could just add optional paths for certain folders? I'm constantly surprised by how basic and unfeatured the client side is!1.9KViews0likes6Comments
