I have just installed Dropbox on Fedora KDE 41 and logged in to my Dropbox account. I can put files in the Dropbox folder and they get uploaded. However, when I right click on the taskbar icon the top item in the menu is stuck on "Connecting...". There is no notifications of anything uploading or downloading so it is impossible to know if everything is working without logging into my Docker account on the web and checking. What should I be able to see in that menu instead of "Connecting..." and how do I fix it so I can keep an eye on what Dropbox is doing?258Views0likes11CommentsUnable to install the desktop app on Fedora 41.
I need to install the Desktop App for Selective Sync. I've downloaded the Fedora rpm and installed it. I installs a filemanager. When I click on the 'open dropbox app' the screen blinks and is redisplayed. What are the steps for installing the Dropbox app? ThanksSolved134Views0likes12CommentsHow can I re-link the desktop app on my Linux Mint VM?
Hi, I have my account linked to Linux Mint in a virtual machine. In order to test a couple of things, I opened to settings in the app and clicked the 'Unlink This Dropbox', with the intension of relinking it for the test. However, I cannot find a way to relink it. Can someone help? Not sure if you need additional information.Solved24Views0likes2CommentsThe desktop app UI on Linux looks old and there's no option to move the Dropbox folder.
I recently switched to Linux from Windows and was looking to have my Dropbox accessible on my desktop. I installed the app direct from the website, and the app looks like its from the early 2000's. I also like to keep a copy of my files offline, through an external desktop expansion, that is synced with the cloud. However, there is no ability (on Linux) to be able to select the sync destination on your computer to be on a different drive than your original one. The Linux version of Dropbox desperately needs to be updated with modern and basic functionalitySolved94Views0likes9CommentsChanges on third-party app not syncing between three Linux distros
I have three linux distros installed on my desktop. They all have Gnucash and Dropbox. They are all connected to the same Dropbox account. I made a change in Gnucash on one of the distros and then later switched to the other two distros. The changes that I made in the one doesn't show up in the Gnucash on the other two distros. All three distros have the same version of Gnucash (5.10). What do I need to do further to solve this problem?35Views0likes8CommentsI'd like the desktop app to sync only once per day on my Linux device.
I am working with Linux Mint 21.1 the latest version. Dropbox keeps syncing all day for me. This is not necessary for me. 1 time on the while starting the computer is enough for me. Can I also set this so that Dropbox only syncs once a day?485Views0likes2CommentsUbuntu stuck in "Starting ..." and no Dropbox folder location is shown
Hi, my symptoms are very similar to what other posts have reported, after connecting a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 installation dropbox is stuck in status "starting ....". I raised the `fs.inotify.max_user_watches` as suggested in several threads, but frankly, my older laptop with Ubuntu 24.04 and far more files is happy at default 65536. However, when opening the graphical settings on the stuck machine, in the `Sync` tab there is no folder location configured, and clicking on "Move" does not open a selector to choose another location. The $HOME/Dropbox is formatted as ext4, not encrypted, and mounted upon startup. => What could prevent Dropbox from knowing the Dropbox location after installation ? How to manually set it as a workaround ? Yours, SteffenSolved544Views1like6CommentsProblem starting Dropbox client on Linux
I'm having some difficulty getting a new Dropbox client operating on a Linux machine. (I'm using Gentoo Linux, using current net-misc/dropbox and dropbox-cli versions.) Nothing I've done has resulted in the creation of the ~/Dropbox directory, there is no evidence that syncing is actually occurring, and a separate login to Dropbox.com shows no connection from the new device. I start with dropbox-cli start -i which automatically creates the ~/.dropbox and ~/.dropbox-dist directories, but not ~/Dropbox. It does start up a browser, allowing me to login directly from the target machine, and when I've finished it declares that "Your device is now connected to Dropbox", or something similar. However, nothing shows up under connected devices, and there is little if any evidence of sync-ing activity (which might be difficult without a ~/Dropbox directory in place). (Creating the directory manually appears not to help, either.) I acknowledge that I've not given the maximum amount of detail here, but what I've described is essentially everything I've attempted. I'm puzzled why multiple statements to the effect that the device is now connected (I tried the above several times) still do not reflect an actual connected device, or sync-ing activity. I guess it's possible that a sync is underway, but is proceeding at an absolutely glacial pace; there is a directory /tmp/Temp-xxxxxx created, which however has no content. (The network connectivity is very fast FWIW.) Any troubleshooting pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Solved72Views0likes5CommentsHow can I make files online-only on Ubuntu?
Dear all Recently, I moved from Windows 11 to Ubuntu 24.04 in my laptop. During my journey in Windows, I was always very pleased with the integration between Dropbox and my operating system, as I could browse all the folders in my Dropbox account locally on my laptop without having to go to the web browser, even those that were not synced to my computer (i.e. I could access the folders not downloaded to my computer, see the file names... and when I double-clicked on a file, it would be downloaded to my computer and I could access it quickly and easily). When I downloaded and synced Dropbox with Ubuntu on my laptop, all the files and folders in my Dropbox account started to store a copy locally on my computer. For those folders that took up a lot of space and that I wasn't going to use at the moment, I right-clicked on them and checked the option to not sync with dropbox.com. However, this did not have the effect of clearing the space that these folders were taking up, with the desired functionality of being able to browse my laptop locally and see their names and be able to access them even if they weren't synced. I was wondering if there was a way to mimic this functionality that I enjoyed on Windows.95Views0likes3Comments
