I copy download links all day from the Mac Finder. It would be great to assign a key command so that you can highlight a file in your Dropbox via Mac Finder, and press a key command to copy the link instead of right clicking.Solved18KViews41likes67CommentsRequest: All files available offline by default
Moving the Mac to the new File Provider is great - very happy this is finally happening and support on the new M1 is much better. Kudos! Feature request: Really miss the feature to have Dropbox default to making all files downloaded and available for offline open/save. I will always, 100% of the time, want Dropbox to keep all my selected-to-sync files to also be downloaded and available for offline use. I know you can right-click to request offline availability, but this creates a bit of an unclear situation as you can't see by looking at a file in Finder whether it is supposed to be offline available or not. I want this to just be the way Dropbox works. Since there is the option to do this on a per file / folder basis using right-click, seems likely possible for Dropbox to make this effectively on-by-default for every file, with the user doing the gesture.Solved31KViews20likes90CommentsWhy is my download speed slow?
Hi, I don't understand why I'm having such a big problem downloading a movie from my Dropbox file onto my MacbookPro laptop. The file is only 1.2GB, I'm connected to my router with an ethernet cable, with a fibre-optic connection of 50/50Mbps uncapped and unthrottled. I've tried many times already, but the download is either ridiculously slow or stops altogether. I'm on Dropbox Pro, I have plenty space on my laptop hard drive, and I'm not doing anything else on the laptop at the same time. Am i doing this incorrectly or what? Help help please!Solved96KViews17likes23CommentsHow to view previews of online-only files on desktop (like how you can in the mobile app)? - macOS
I'm trying to figure out how to see previews, specifically of .jpeg online files, on my mac desktop. I use Dropbox almost exclusively for photo management and it's frustrating not even being able to see a preview so I can figure out which files I need to download locally (I just moved from an old computer that had enough storage to download everything offline to a new computer with much less storage so almost everything is online). I can do this on my android app. All of the online-only files on the mobile app are fully previewable and I can scroll through everything before deciding what to download. Is this possible on the desktop?34KViews10likes165CommentsDropbox sync stalling on Big Sur
Dropbox has always worked well for me -- until I updated my (very new) iMac to macOS "Big Sur" (11.1) about a month ago. The issue in a nutshell is that Dropbox will upload changed files for a little bit after starting, then stall entirely, or slow to a creep. It's a little tricky to characterize, because it's not consistent. A few times I quit Dropbix and restarted it and (judging from the "Recent" activity listing in the menubar dropdown) a few files would quickly upload, but then would stall and nothing else would upload, or a few items at random. The little wheel at the bottom of that dropdpwn is turning and says "Syncing XXX files", but nothing seems to happen, and the number of files just keeps going up ... and down ... and up ... it's very difficult to tell what's actually happening or what Dropbx is doing because there doesn't appear to be a sync log I can access. I've tried quitting and deleting the Dropbox app and re-installing. A couple of times when I've done that there would be a burst of upload activity, but then it would stall again, but I can't even get that to happen consistently. Of course Iv'e tried the usual things like restarting and so forth. Another reason it's difficult to in down is that the behavior is so erratic. In one instance a file I put in a particualr Dropbox folder uploaded right away. But in that same folder are things I added WEEKS ago now that have yet to sync. If there's a pattern or characteristic common to things that are not uploading, or when or why Dropbox stalls, or how to kick-start those bursts of uploadeds, I can't identify it. (No clues in "View sync issues". Just a few Outlook emoji that won't upload because they have an emoji in the file name.) I'm feeling stytmied. Suggestions as to things to try welcome, or tools to help figure out what Dropbox is doing or trying to do to help narrow down the issue. (I have about 1.6 TB worth of stuff in Dropbox, though, so solutions that involve re-uploading everything from scratch will not be particularly welcome.) I've Googled around and not been able to identify others with similar issues. Thanks.Solved9.5KViews4likes47CommentsMac osx - strange extra files appearing when downloading files directly.
Just had a strange issue with some files that I directly downloaded from our DB folders. On the website, I went to one of my shared folders from another team member, and clicked on 2 files (illustrator) and one folder that contained several photoshop images. I chose to direct download option and downloaded them to my desktop. They downloaded to the zip file, like usual. BUT... when I uncompressed the zip file, there was an ADDITIONAL folder named "__MACOSX" - when I opened that, there was a repeat of the same Illustrator files and the PSD folder, but the file names were changed (most had underscores in them). In addition, these files were very small in size (70 bytes for example, when they should have been 3.3MB - same thing for the PSD images they were all around 100kb or less, when they should have been several MB). I asked my co-worker to repeat the process on his computer (different OS that what I'm using, but still on a mac) and he had the same thing happen. Any idea's what's happening? Is this just a glitch? I'm on an imac, running OS 10.11.616KViews4likes71CommentsI can see my files when I visit my account online, but not when I open my Dropbox folder in Finder.
I have been using Dropbox for many years now. Recently, some files are now showing up on Mac's Finder (I am using a Macbook Air M2 with Sonoma 14.2.1). Latest Dropbox desktop app version. Files are displayed normally on Dropbox website and also on my iPhone. On Mac they do not show up, but if I do a search on Mac, they appear, but then, if I choose "Show File on Enclosing Folder" on Mac, it shows up, but it is greyed out. If I try to rename it it says I can't because the file is hidden. I have already restarted the Dropbox app and the Mac. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Dropbox app - same results after the reinstall. I am only still using Dropbbox on Mac due to being used to it, as I have plenty of space on my iCloud Drive - but if I cannot get it to work properly, this may be my final goodbye to Dropbox. It will be a pain in the butt to move all files but I am starting to be tired of trying to get this sorted.Solved11KViews3likes13CommentsCloud icon with arrow on some folders/files on my Mac. How can I download my content locally?
I am working with dropbox for over 8 years but since last few weeks some sci-fi things are blocking my workflow with dropbox. I saw cloud icon w/arrow pointing down next to some (random) folders & files. those files are not available when I switch off wifi. I can't find any option in the settings to switch off that. I still have lots of free storage space. I need to have everything offline on every device. I think it came with the last update. It's reall a mess. How do I turn it off?Solved17KViews3likes29CommentsCamera Upload thumbnail not showing on mac
I use Smart Sync I'm on a Macbook Air Ventura 13.5.2 I know SmartSync doesn't download the files to your laptop but I'm pretty sure I used to get low-res thumbnails of the images in my Camera Upload folder Since updating to the newest OS that seems to not work anymore and I just see the generic icons now. If I "make it available offline" then it downloads the image and the thumbnail works but I'd love to have a low-res thumbnail so I can tell if I should download it or not.Solved8.3KViews2likes42CommentsBackup EVERYTHING to external hard drive on Mac
I have a professional account with about 2TB of data that includes folders on my iMac and online-only folders as well. I want to backup ALL of this information to an external hard drive and need some help/advice please. Clearly, DB does not include a feature to do this (which is completely unsatisfactory). Additionally, now that Apple has restricted the location of my Dropbox folder, I cannot use an external drive as the primary location which would enable me to have a copy of everything locally. Who has solved this problem and would you kindly share your solution. I do not want to leave Dropbox after nearly ten years but this is a deal-breaker for me. Thanks!1.8KViews2likes3Comments
