Cannot save changes to Microsoft Word Online documents in shared Dropbox folders.
Greetings. The issue. Any MS Word document that I create in a shared Dropbox folder or add to the folder cannot be edited in Word Online without getting the following error message: Couldn't save latest changes. To avoid losing the highlighted changes, copy and paste them into the document in a new tab. The message is in a yellow banner at the top of the document. Specs. I'm running Firefox Developer Edition 114.0b9 (64-bit) under Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) x86_64. I have a free "Basic" Dropbox account, and a free Microsoft account (no 365 license). Things I've tried. I've tried logging into my Microsoft account, reloading Word Online, and trying again. I even tried recreating the entire document when signed in to my Microsoft account. I've tried creating the document in another subfolder of the shared folder. I've tried different formats, including ODT, DOCX and DOC. I've tried adding MS Word files to my shared folder in different ways, that is: By using the Dropbox web interface and its "Create" dropdown; By copying and pasting a file into the shared folder, again using the Dropbox web interface; By adding the file to the synced folder on my Linux system. I've tried setting the share options in Word Online to "Anyone with [the] link can edit". After each of all these different attempts, I would reload the document and try to change the file again, with no success. I would also close the tab and reopen the document afresh from the Dropbox interface. Even after doing this, the same error appears a few seconds after making any change, whatever that be, to the file. Some examples of different changes I've tried making to the document include adding text, removing text, changing the spell check language for the document as a whole, changing the font of some or all of the text, adding comments, and so forth. Doing even a single one of these changes results in the error described earlier, meaning that the number of changes made to the files is unrelated to the problem, as opposed to what some have suggested online on other forums. A quick search on the internet shows that many people are complaining about the very same issue to Microsoft, although Microsoft staff argue that this is a Dropbox-related problem, and don't suggest any working fixes. I say this in all due respect to both Microsoft and Dropbox staff and community, and am not accusing anyone for the problems I am experiencing. It is noteworthy that this error does not occur when creating or adding an MS Word file to an unshared Dropbox folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless.Solved28KViews0likes3Comments
Canât edit Excel .xlsx in iphone (app is updated)
Hi, I hope someone can help me out. My iphone app version is 322.2.2 And I am trying to edit through ny iphone app an excel document (which I created on my Mac and is saved as an .xlsx. I click on rhe doc and then click âopenâ (which is in a gray box at the bottom) but I dont get the editing (pencil icon) option after that, I Can only share, save to Files ot print. Linking Excel files in Dropbox without changing their path.
We just switched to Dropbox for Business. We have several Excel files with formulas that link to other Excel files all saved in a shared folder. With our local server the links would work for every user the same. Now with using Dropbox, the link will work for one user and not for another user. If the 2nd user changes the file path to make the link work for them, then it will no longer work for the first user. How do we make it so all users in the shared file can open the Excel file and have the links update without having to change the file path for each user?Solved14KViews2likes3Comments
Editing Word document on Android mobile
I am able to edit Excel files stored in Dropbox; however, Word documents say Read Only and state I need to say a copy of my original file to be able to edit it. I can't see anything different in the signin information or app settings within Word and Excel. Microsoft Word documents won't sync
Hi! Microsoft Word documents won't sync for me (I'm using a Mac). I've used Word and Dropbox for years and never had this problem before. I got a new computer recently and it all worked fine for the first week, and then yesterday Word just stopped synching. I open a document, work in it, and when I save, it saves to the hardrive but it won't sync--the red x icon appears. All other file types are syncing just fine, including Microsoft Excel. I've tried restarting all the programs and the computer and I reinstalled Word. The strangest part is if I close the document and change the filename in finder, then it will sync. It does take longer though than if I do it with any other file type. Or if I am in a document, do a "save as" and change the filename, the new file will sync. But if I'm working in a file and just hit save, it will save to my hardrive but it won't sync. I'm an editor and this is a huge problem for my workflow. Any suggestions? I'm having trouble with saving a few files to Dropbox. It's installed on my PC. I create the file and save it in my Dropbox file, as I have done for the last few years I've used Dropbox. When I open my files, the new Dropbox files are not appearing. My old files are still there, but the new ones I just saved are not there. I reopened both Word and PowerPoint (I used both programs to create recent documents) and resaved teh files. It even asked me if I wanted to replace my copy of the file, so the computer thinks it was already saved. But once I go to open the file in the folder, the file is not there. Cannot edit word document on iPhone Microsoft word app
Is there any advice how to edit the text of a word document opened initially from my Dropbox account that then opens into the Microsoft word app on an iPhone?
