I'm really happy that Dropbox now supports live photos. Having them automatically upload from my iPhone and be visible on dropbox.com is working great! What I'm not seeing is how I can get the movie portion of the live photos onto my laptop. When the live photo is synced to my computer I only see the .heic file, I'd also expect to somehow be able to access the .mp4 file, even if I had to take some sort of extra step. How do I download the movie part of the file? Can this somehow be made part of the automatic sync feature? Can the web UI have a button added to access the movie? I also looked at the developer API docs and it wasn't clear to me if the API support working with live photos. Am I missing something?Solved2.2KViews0likes9CommentsImage previews in Explorer only showing the compressed preview for local files on Windows
Hello. Since the big Dropbox update in February 2025 I have been experiencing issues. I mainly use Dropbox in Windows file explorer, not on the Dropbox App / Site. I have Dropbox for Windows on 3 separate devices: (2) Windows 11 Laptops, and (1) Windows 10 Desktop - and I have am having the same issue on all devices. The main issue is image previews in the "preview pane" of the Windows file explorer. Before the update, if I had an image saved locally / set to "available offline", a full preview of the image would show up in the preview pane, just as it would if I was in a local folder on my computer, like my "Pictures" folder, or whatever. Also, images that were only in the cloud / set to "online only" would display a small compressed preview in the preview pane, which is fine. Since the February update, when I am in my Dropbox folder with images that have been downloaded locally, it will either only generate a small compressed preview in the preview pane, or no preview at all, and it takes a very long time for the preview to show up. However, the "online only" images are still behaving the same, showing only a small compressed preview in the preview pane, however the preview shows up faster than it does for a locally saved file... So strange. I do a lot of image editing and graphic design, so not being able to quickly scroll through my image folders and look at the previews puts a massive kink in my workflow. It has been driving me insane. It's like the Dropbox Windows app is having difficulty discerning which files are downloaded locally or just in the cloud. For some reason it is treating the downloaded files like they are still in the cloud, or even worse for some reason as sometimes a preview won't even load, compressed or otherwise. The green checkmark is there on the file, but the previews are compressed or don't show up at all. And this it not an intermittent problem, it is constant and has not gotten better since the update in February. I have been resorting to moving the images into a local folder on whichever device I am currently using so that I am able to scroll through them efficiently, and then re-upload them to the Dropbox folder when I am done working, and then download them to a local folder again on my next device. It is very annoying to do every time. There has to be a better way. I also checked the functionality of my OneDrive and iCloud folders in Windows, and they all show previews in the preview pane just fine, just like my local Windows folders. It is solely a Dropbox issue. I tried searching Reddit and could find nothing, so I started my own post on there, and there are a handful of other people that have come forward with the same problem. Someone from Dropbox commented on my Reddit post and suggested that I post on here, so here I am. Any help out there?? Thank you.Solved1.1KViews1like11CommentsIs there a way to add files from Photomyne directly to Dropbox?
Hi, I have some albums of very precious photos created and stored on Photomyne (online). I would like to move them into my Dropbox, but can't work out how to do it. I have the option of downloading them from Photomyne onto my laptop, and then I imagine from there I will be able to move them to Dropbox, but I don't have enough storage on my laptop to do them all at once. And it would be laborious to do each one and then delete it to do the next? I am not very tech savvy but wonder if there is a way to transfer them directly to Dropbox? and if so can it be explained in very simple terms please? many thanks.Solved400Views0likes8CommentsHow to move many photos from the Dropbox mobile app to Google Photos on an iPad?

I have used DropBox for many years but haven't used it the last year+. I have photo files in my computer that I have uploaded from my C drive and from my icloud but neither will allow the photos to open in DropBox. I'm not sure what's up. The .jpg files are over 100MB each. And I need to use DropBox to share these photos to customers.Solved299Views0likes9CommentsMy Camera Uploads lacks content, but I can see all of my content in the "Photos" tab.
My "Camera Uploads" folder only has photos going back one month, plus one short video from last June. However, all the photos from my phone going back years, including the ones taken in the past month, are in the "Photos" tab. This seems odd. Is this how it's supposed to work? And why is the only older file in "Camera Uploads" a single video from June? Thanks!290Views0likes11CommentsMy photos are not importing to Dropbox in order. There is no way to sort them by date created.
I am not storing photos on my computer so I'm only using your website to upload photos from my phone. I imported over 6000 photos last night and they are completely random, no order whatsoever! I want to see them in order of date created, oldest first.251Views1like9CommentsSeveral enhancements to commenting on files / photos
Overview - to use Dropbox as a discussion board for files (and in my case, particularly photos). Several things could be done to improve this. While viewing the contents of a folder, dropbox shows thumbnails of any image files, which is great. Add a red bubble icon over the top, together with a number that indicates how many new comments are on a file; new comments are those you haven't yet seen. Currently there is a notification (bell) icon. Add a new icon (speech bubble) for comments. Currently if I'm viewing the contents of a folder and there are photos, thumbnails are shown, which is great. If I click on one, a larger preview of that photo appears on the right-hand edge of screen, which is great. Above that larger version there is a speech bubble - I need to click that in order to add or view comments on this photo. When I click it, a panel appears below the photo saying "no new comments no this file". There is a button to "add new comment". When I click that, the entire screen reloads. It shows the photo in the main panel and it shows a comments panel to the right. Why the full reload? Why not bump the comments panel out from the right edge of screen and retain the thumbnail gallery at far left and push the larger preview - which was on right-edge of screen - to centre of screen (so comments panel fits on the right)? That way after catching up on the comments on this file I could just click another thumbnail to catch up on the next lot of comments. Indeed, rather than having to click the comments icon in order to view the comments, give me a user setting where I can say "display comments by default" so when I click a thumbnail, both the full size image and the comments panel appear at the same time? This would speed up workflow. So the biggest issues right now are that while I've viewing a folder with, say, 50 photos in it, there is absolutely nothing guiding me to where the comments and discussion are happening. You could take this a step further - in the left side of screen is the panel "folders" - you could have icons (speech bubbles) over the folder names that contain numbers - the number reflects how many comments are new to you and located within that folder. That way I could browse my folder tree in order to locate where new comments and discussions are. Take it further again - if there are no new comments, then instead of a red speech bubble with a red dot containing a number (the same way your notification bell icon at top-right of screen is a grey bell icon with a red dot with a white number in it), you can display a grey dot with a number inside indicating how many comments are contained in that folder overall (with, say, a max being 99 or 99+). Another idea - currently when you mouseover a thumbnail image while browsing a folder, the star icon appears as an outline. You can click that in order to star the file. Why not also have a speech bubble icon? Click it to immediately view the current comments and be able to add a new comment. Again, it's all about speeding up the workflow to facilitate discussions on the files in the folder. Take that idea further again - why not have a user setting that allows me to "display interactive icons by default"? If I say "yes", then permanently show the star (and the newly-suggested speech bubble) icon(s)? Personally, I hate having to hover over things in order to discover what functionality is present. I understand the design rationale to get rid of clutter - but why not give users a choice? I'd rather see exactly what options are there. Further, if you showed speech bubbles here, then this is where you could put a red or grey dot over the top to show the number of new (or total) comments against each file. (I just realised you have far more functionality appear on hover - like share, link, edit and more ... so maybe don't show them all, or maybe make the user setting so that I can specify which, of all these features, I want permanently shown without requiring mouseover. At the very least, I want speech bubble icons telling me where comments are happening, to be shown permanently.) That will do for starters.213Views0likes3Comments
