Requesting a feature update that would allow org-mode /Orgzly files with the extension ".org" to be viewed as text files in Dropbox. Orgzly for Android allows for creation and editing of org-mode files in Android, and syncing with Dropbox. Being able to view the files would useful, without having to open them in a text editor (e.g. Emacs).39KViews148likes47CommentsDisable "Suggested from your activity" permanently
Hi there, I absolutely hate the feature "Suggested from your activity". I would like to see a checkbox in settings that allows a user to disable that permanently and have the cleanest possible view of file(lists) and folders. The "Suggested from your activity" feature always shows my family photos or, like today, a preview of my tax form. Whenever I open dropbox in the office to browse my files, all my work colleges can see these previews too. The icon that hides it, is only remembering the setting as long as one does not delete cookies from the browser. At our company, it is policy to delete cookies every day at the end of the day. So this "hiding" setting is pretty useless for me. More over, please make it possible to have a clean, minimalistic UI without all the fluff, super big blue buttons and "easy access" helpers. Some people don't need it. It is distracting and disturbing.27KViews82likes52CommentsCreating your own thumbnails for videos
Hello, Many users, including myself, would like to see a way to save a thumbnail of our choosing when we send a video link to a client, and without needing to purchase or rent any up-sell software. If it can be done with Vimeo, Youtube, and Frame IO, it can be done here on Dropbox too. All too often I will share a link with a professional client for a video I've created, and the thumbnail image that opens up for the client is of the on-camera talent caught in an embarrassing pose with their mouth open and their eyes half closed. Hello Dropbox, can this idea be turned into a reality? You need to help us users look more professional in the eyes of our clients. This is why we pay for the Dropbox service. To my fellow Dropbox users... if you agree with this please "like" it, or add to the thread.23KViews40likes18CommentsPDF Preview functionality - how to disable?
I really, really dislike the Dropbox PDF preview functionality. It served my needs much better to have the PDF I click on in Dropbox open directly in Acrobat Reader. Is there a way to switch the PDF preview off? If not, I strongly request that become a future option. PDF preview in dropbox may be great for some users, but for me, it's terrible. Thanks.46KViews32likes56CommentsOn iPad, adjust column widths, or allow line wrap, to show full filenames
Is it possible to prevent long filenames being shortened from the end? My filenames need to have the whole name displayed, rather than having the end characters chopped off. These "end" characters identify the various versions of the same file. Many thanks, JohnF3.5KViews27likes13CommentsPreserve file Creation Dates(and other metadata) in mobile app versions
The ability to preserve, view, sort by, etc the original Creation Dates(and other metadata) of files is missing or severely limited in the Dropbox mobile apps. People who don’t use Dropbox primarily for business purposes on a computer but, as many of us do these days, use our smartphones as our primary(or only) method of keeping track of media/documents/audio files/etc are having to deal with the frustrating situation of trying and failing to backup/reorganize/download to another mobile device/etc our files without losing this extremely important file metadata. I can’t even view ANY file information on non-photo files, and the photos are difficult to even upload with a title that reflects the actual creation date. If not uploaded at a painful 1 image at a time (and many times not even then) the file name will be changed to the upload date/time. The creation date is ALWAYS listed as the upload time or the last time that it was moved, downloaded, re-uploaded, etc. There’s no sort by CREATION date, only sort by Modification date which is just a complete denial of basic file management for those of us who manage all of our files on mobile phones and tablets. We desperately need full file information accessibility for Dropbox mobile apps… ESPECIALLY the ability to preserve and sort by the ORIGINAL file creation dates… and to not lose access to those creation dates when moved, renamed, downloaded, re-uploaded, etc, but to keep them intact despite all modifications. Creation dates and modification dates can be preserved separately without sacrificing one for the other, as long as the files’ metadata remains intact.6.8KViews22likes26CommentsSlide show feature removed
Viewing a folder of photos as a slide show is a basic feature which was previously available in Dropbox but has been removed. In my view this is a fundamental capability. I would like to send a link to others to let them view files easily without clicking/swiping on every shot and without downloading all the files. I don't get it. Slide shows worked very well before.13KViews15likes9CommentsShared Link / "scl" to "s"
Hello. My question concerns my recent issue with file sharing. Usually, my links were generated in this way: 'https://www.dropbox.com/s/'. However, lately, every file is being generated in this way: 'https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/'. Do you know a way to restore the old way of generating links? I just need old way of links, because game can't read new links Greet 😛Solved103KViews14likes211CommentsWhy does Dropbox insist on renaming my files?
2020: "Stop renaming my files! (on auto phone upload)" by BoxyBeat https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-installs-integrations/Stop-renaming-my-files-on-auto-phone-upload/td-p/391599 Dropbox response was: "interesting indeed". Then they are like; let us learn what you have uncovered that we still don't know. Like, let's go out there and jump through the hoops together to confirm if the files are named based on when the files are created (recording starts) or when they are last modified (recording stops). What difference does it make? Just stop renaming people's files!? They go on to explain that this is the expected behavior... duh! They never explain why this is, even though the author specifically requested an explanation from Dropbox as to "why" this is. They said they moved the question to the "Share an idea" section. They closed the question for further comments so that anyone who feels the same way about this Dropbox misbehavior can start their own discussion about it, like I'm doing right now, and we can all pretend that no one really wants this "feature", because the discussion activity is low and no one is voting. They even go as far as closing supposedly "shared ideas" for lack of support by other members of the community of users, before it even has a chance to reach the right team at Dropbox, Inc. With so many filters along the way, I would be surprised if any Dropbox features is ever a direct result of user input. Dropbox has its own fixed ideas of how to do things, and that's how it's going to stay. Like it and use it, or don't like it and move on to using something else. This is the example of a shared idea that has been closed due to lack of support. 2021: "Stop renaming files" by Pete3000 https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-ideas/Stop-renaming-files/idi-p/510186 Allow such ideas to stay open for a good while and see what happens. You will never get enough votes if you keep closing ideas and keep closing discussions. You will always blame it on lack of interest by other users, and users will keep creating new topics for the same old discussions, and keep sharing the same old ideas without it ever being forwarded to the right team at Dropbox, Inc. It's so obvious right now that you are genuinely not interested in what we users have to say or what we think of your apps and services. Not when you keep shutting us off, closing our topics of discussion and keep closing our "shared" ideas before they can gather enough votes and traction, and before they ever reach the right team. You're doing this on purpose. And that's OK. It's your product and your service. I just wanted to call you out and let you know that I can see through your charade and I don't agree with your practices. So let us have it... why are you changing the names of our files? And more importantly, why are you not allowing us to decide for ourselves if we want your app to change the name of our files or not? There is a way to set up naming conventions with Dropbox, but it does not apply to the mobile app and camera uploads. It applies only to the web and the desktop app (the option links back to the web for setting it up, there is no interface for it within the desktop app itself). "How to use naming conventions in Dropbox" https://help.dropbox.com/files-folders/sort-preview/naming-conventions Despite this advanced and elaborate way to exactly specify how to name and organize files in Dropbox (as long as you're not using the mobile app), and despite having several preset naming rules to choose from, having no rule at all is not a selectable rule or option. I am very disappointed with Dropbox right now. It feels like with each passing year I have less and less reason to use Dropbox. You have already reduced the number of devices allowed to sync from 5 to 3 (if I remember correctly) on the free plan. I wouldn't actually mind getting a premium plan if you did things a little differently and you got rid of the excess bulk you have invented in recent years like Paper, Transfer, Vault, Spaces, and what not, the list keeps growing. Dropbox has moved well beyond what used to be its core business idea, and it's far from working ideally, and I don't want to be paying for the things I don't intend to use.Solved15KViews13likes21Comments
