Small and large companies use MDM's, like Microsoft Intune, to manage their devices. As Dropbox has a focus on companies, it's one of the only apps that 1: doesn't offer an app to install via MDM for Mac and Windows, 2: doesn't support script for auto account login via MDM. Dropbox does support EMM, but that doesn't to the trick for most companies. It would enhance ransomware protection if folders or files could be marked as "read-only", where only a change/rename/erasure is password protected. Read-only is supported for teams, the request is for individual users. Password protection is also available but is for any access - which makes it uncomfortable when reading data; In my case, and I assume for many private users, 99% of the data is never changed once uploaded - family pictures, documents etc. Motivation is to enhance protection in case an unauthorized party got access to your account and has the ability to erase your data - such as a virus or ransomware attack. So the aim is not privacy - it is erasure protection, while not complicating everyday viewing with a password for every read.39Views1like2CommentsAutomatically sign out of Dropbox on the site after a specific amount of time
At the moment, if I hang about or leave, Dropbox seems to keep me signed in, which is, for me, an unnecessary security risk. Surely a lot of people would dislike this, if they thought about it? There should be an option in Settings to log me off if I am inactive for a set length of time, or if I leave. Could you please look at this? When you view an invoice for one of your payments, it opens up a new page. If you happen to leave that page up when you leave the PC you were using, that page just remains... forever. This leaves your personal information exposed. The page should time out and disappear when your browser session for the web site times out. There isn't even a "Close" Button on the page. Just a "Print receipt" Button. I submitted this to Customer Support and they merely responded that this works as designed. If so, then I say it's a very flawed "design" and needs to be changed.60Views2likes3CommentsLock/hide a folder with a password or a security key
Hello, I think it would be a good idea to be able to lock/hide Dropbox folders without necessarily putting them in the vault. There are sensitive documents that we would like not to be accessible to everyone, without necessarily putting them in another place, and moreover, I may need to give access to my account to colleagues, so I think it would be nice to be able to lock/hide them with several security methods: - Security key (Face ID/Touch ID/Physical security key) - Specific password (or PIN) + You could choose to use the security method registered in the Dropbox account, or use another one. We have issues with users accidentally deleting entire folders, unfortunately this seems to happen on our larger teams that have a lot of data in their folders. This means a lot of down time waiting for help recovering the folders/files. We regularly train our users not to delete folders but it happens anyway. Our users need to be able to edit files, but there is no reason for them to be able to delete entire folders. Having a function to prevent users from being able to delete at the Folder level would prevent a lot of down time as well as having to escalate recovery to DropBox.259Views0likes4CommentsUser restrictions on bulk deletion or moving
It would be great if it were possible to set a user so they cannot perform bulk deletions or moves of files. One of the users, who does not have admin rights, accidentally moved a folder with 350,000 files. As a result, we lost the functionality of the links when returning the folder back. It would therefore be great if some users could be restricted so that it is not possible to move or delete files beyond a certain quota.239Views2likes3CommentsAdd the option to remove metadata from files before sharing
Dear Meta Team, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to suggest a feature for Dropbox that I believe would greatly enhance user experience: the ability to remove or edit metadata, specifically location data, directly within the platform before sharing files. Currently, the process of stripping metadata requires additional steps that can be time-consuming and inconvenient. Implementing a feature to manage metadata directly in Dropbox would save users a lot of time and effort, particularly for those who often share videos and images. Thank you for considering this suggestion. I appreciate the continuous improvements to your services and look forward to any updates. Best regards, Gigi117Views0likes1Comment
