Shared Folders
11 TopicsOption to create a template folder or automation, based on an existing one.
SHORT - We need a to have a template for a shared folder same as we have possibility to create an email template when we want to send same information to many different people. PROBLEM - Every time I create a new shared folder manually with same structure and I cant fill it with empty subfolders automatically, because there's no such automation, so I spend a lot of meaningless time for this creating same 10 empty subfolders foe each new shared folder every time. HOW IT WORKS NOW, EXAMPLE - f/e I need to create 5 new DBX folders for our clients, who will later fill these folders with their documents. For that I create 1 new shared folder(1 action), give it a name(2nd action), add people(3rd action), create 5 subfolders with their original names (5 more actions).. I spend 10 minutes for this and perform 8 actions at least. Then I need to create SAME FOLDER FOR DIFFERENT CLIENT, so I do it again - 10 mins and 8 actions. If I make it for 5-6 clients , I spend an hour. I could copy first folder and rename it, but its not convenient at all as it will immediately land & drown in the list of other 1000 folders in our storage, so I will have to first find it to start working with it. HOW IT COULD WORK - it could be a "automation" called "set up a rule for new folder" - not WNEN it will be filled with files (focus on the files) but ONCE ITS CREATED (focus on a folder). So for example the rule can be - once new folder created - it will have the following newly created empty sub-folders with specific names. OR this could be realized as an option to create a TEMPLATE of the folder - I will set it up one time and then just use it every time I need to create a new folder of this kind. And then would be nice to be able to create more than 1 template for a shared folder. Manageable options in a template-folder could be: name, subfolders (with specific names)/ or pre-uploaded files, maybe even the addresses the folder has to be shared with. That's it, thank you.25Views0likes1CommentSender receives an email notification when and with who they share a folder with!
Whenever the owner shares a folder/ file in dropbox they should receive a delivery notification that the folder/ file has been shared with the receiver detailing the date/ time/ receiver details (name and account/ email), similar to the one a receiver gets from dropbox portal that a file/ folder has been shared by xxxx dropbox account. We all make mistakes or sometimes it could be some glitch in the devices, a folder is shared accidently and as you do not receive any notifications so such detail can easily be missed as the sender is oblivious of the activity/ mistake and it can go unnoticed. When the receiver accepts and joins the folder than its easy to check who has access but in cases where the receiver accepts and immediately removes themselves in that case its practically impossible to track if the shared folder was ever accessed by the receiver. This also can be deemed as a security concern, as the sender is completely oblivious of the shared folder status and there is no proof that the folder was actually shared with the receiver. The activity log and events page do reflect the sharing of the folder but do not provide details with who the folder/ file was shared. Hope this can be taken into consideration as can surely help track sharing of folders much better and secured. In MS OneDrive - I have two lists: shared to me shared by me In Dropbox - that one menu-choice "shared" - is one very "foggy" thing. I want clear view: 1. what have I shared to someone? (maybe I discover that there is something I should "unshare") 2. what is shared to me? Maybe there is some rubbish - I don't want it anymore.16Views0likes1CommentOption for Clients to "star" or "favorite" Images
The option for Clients to "star" or "favorite" Images in a shared folder would be insanely useful. It's surprising this still hasn't been added yet as a feature. Especially given the introduction of Replay for video feedback, and the fact that commenting already exists for photos and stars exist for internal favorites—all we need is the option for external clients to also "star" photos the way they can comment on photos. Currently, we have to use third-party programs to share photo proofs with clients just so they can select the images they want to purchase. Comments alone are too cumbersome when there's hundreds of images to go through. One tiny addition of a star would make Dropbox for photos unbeatable!434Views5likes3CommentsOpen links to files in shared folders directly in Finder instead of the site
Our company uses Dropbox Business, and teammates regularly send e-mailed links to files within the shared folders. Clicking them spawns the web browser which then prompts me to download a copy of the file instead of taking me to the file, which might be nested in a folder several layers deep, in the Dropbox app or Finder. So my request is to give users an option to open links to files that are already in the shared Dropbox folders using Finder, or at least the Dropbox desktop app.854Views2likes4CommentsMake members invisible to others
Hello, I noticed that when a members access to my folders via your website, he can see all the other members' name on the upper right corner. I can also double click on their icon and send a mail to anybody! I don't want any member to get access to the other members. So, please add a feature to disable viewing all other members.2.4KViews3likes2CommentsMake it easier to remove external collaborators on a Dropbox team
in our account, we currently have 89 external collaborators that I would like to remove. Each collaborator has on average 40 files shared with them and it currently takes four clicks to remove each shared file so 89 x 40 x 4 = 14,240 clicks. I don't have that kind of time or patience. Right now, I guess I just leave them and hope they don't access the files any longer. In the future, we just will not use the exterior collaborator feature - seems completely unworkable.82Views1like6CommentsAllow automated folders to be duplicated with the automation in the duplicates
Would it be possible to duplicate folders with automation in them, aside from performing them manually? Would love to create an "automation" that can easily be added to new folders created, or simply copy over when duplicating an existing folder.53Views0likes2CommentsMore efficient method to share/unshare folders/files
Reviving this closed suggestion from two years ago. The current method of sharing folders is painfully slow, especially if you have a group of users where only certain users get access to certain folders. You have to go person-by-person to add, delete or change the type of access. Each time you submit, it takes several seconds to update one user. It is especially cumbersome when the members change frequently (people leave/join a group.) I suggest a "bulk" or "batch" method of changing sharing of folders using checkboxes or buttons. When you click on the share icon for a folder, it would bring up a popup window showing all existing share members, their options, and the ability to change attributes, and add new members. Here's a sample view of the window. The same technique can be used for files too.59Views1like1CommentWhen renaming shared folders, also change the name of the folder for other users
Issue with DropBox and it's permissions/roles associated with users and folder renaming and file visibility. Background Example: When have a Team Folder at the top level with multiple subfolders under it. We have users with permission to edit starting at the Team Level. Scenario: We create a folder at a sublevel that is a placeholder folder for a specific job or task with basic information placed within, as yet unassigned to a specific Job or Task. Once that subfolder is assigned for work, we rename the folder to encompass the specific job or task. This final name should be updated globally for all users going forward to work on or within this folder. We are wanting to use DropBox like a Network administrator would set permissions for their folder structure/file management system. If a user has permission to change a folder, then that change should be reflected to all users who have access to that "network" folder. Permissions should propogate all changes, without having to unshare and reshare the folder anytime a rename occurs. This should happen automatically. The Point of DropBox would be for an Organization to be able to have a shared system that is actually of use. The point is the abililty to have individual users, who have full access to the folders, be able to update folders with changes and statuses, including name changes and have those changes pushed to all users who then attempt to access that folder. We are not looking for a local back copy that is based off a period of time. This needs to be a fluid operation, like Active Directory and other Server/Network based permissions. If permissions are granted, then those changes should always be updated automatically, so users always see the latest and greatest contents of folder names and files therein. This is used for Auditing Purposes and tracking user's work. If we are unable to automatically see the changes, due to the limitations of DropBox, then what is the point of a shared system that does not automatically sync "ALL CHANGES"? I see others have had similar issues and the option of unsharing, renaming, and the resharing is a total waste of time and counter-intuitive to how the Cloud Based file sharing system should work.884Views2likes2Comments
