How can I turn off the preview on the site?
Dropbox apparently introduced new functionality that forces a large preview window every time a file is selected. The vast majority of time this degrades my efficiency in using Dropbox. Dropbox not searchable in MacOS Ventura 13.1
Since the recent Dropbox update, I can no longer search for files in Dropbox on my Mac. I have been using Dropbox for over 10 years and have never had this problem before. It's making life extremely difficult and making me think about moving entirely to Google Drive, although I don't really like Google that much. But at least it's free, whereas I am now paying Dropbox for a less functional service than I had previously. Does anyone know how to get this function back?Solved12KViews10likes56Comments
Advanced search based on key phrases
I seriously need advanced searching. Dropbox used to have these features (like search exact phrase) in 2015, but somehow removed them. So how can I do advanced searching in dropbox? Search in filename only
Is it possible to search in filenames only? Smart search seems very powerful and smart most of the time but in some cases it's just confusing that it also searches in file contents. E.g. having thousands of documents in my dropbox folder searching for 'bill' will return too many documents to when I really only need files with the word 'bill' in their names. I see some posts from years ago saying it's not available and recommending to use the OS search functionality instead but I'm hoping this has been resolved in a more elegant and mobile friendly way since then. The new feature where all files open in preview mode causes extra clicks each time I open a file. Occasionally, the underlying app doesn't open and I have start the app, browse to the file, and open it which is even a longer process. DB website folder thumbnails - plain blue please - no photo collages
I HATE the new photo-collage folder thumbnails on the Dropbox website. 👎👎👎👎👎 Not sure why anyone thought that was a good idea or why a content thumbnail is needed for a folder (especially since the photos that show up on the thumbnail aren't necessarily representative of the folder contents). The random photo jumble/collage makes it very hard to differentiate a folder from a file/image. Is there any way to change my folder thumbnails back to plain blue on the website? Thank you, Judith P.S. Folders that only have subfolders are still plain blue on the website....maybe that's my solution. Allow files to open without preview in the mobile app, like they used to.
Drop Dropbox used to open files with default apps without the preview function. That functionality has since been removed. That functionality was very helpful to those of us using atypical files such as the CBR files consisting of zipped images that can be opened with a specific viewer. The current version of Dropbox does not allow that and takes me to a "preview can't be opened" screen. I then need to go to several other screens to actually open the file. I would like the functionality to be restored. My files are created as plain .txt files. In the past they would open directly with the Dropbox Text Editor as I had selected the Dropbox Text Editor as the default in the phone app. Now the files only show preview mode! Now must select the EDIT icon to edit them – using the Dropbox Text Editor. This occurred after my app updated to version 322.2.2. I have one device with version 320.2 – it still works as it should. Having Preview Mode open files 1st is a PITA! Might be ok for people that rarely edit the files. But I edit them dozens of a day – major annoyance! Dropbox preview mode - bug made out to be a “Feature”. Fix it!! Don’t need or want the bloatware nor the added “Features” that make an app more cumbersome to use. Not to mention resource hogs. Yes, I've noticed Dropbox taking more resources with every "update" How many apps & software that have tired this before and are now extinct?
