We want to open shared links directly on the desktop app and not the website.
Hi there. Love Dropbox. I moved our whole team to it from Google Drive much to all of our delight. The one hiccup that keeps coming up (was also an issue with Drive, but would be a game changing new feature from DB) is sharing links. Our team uses the desktop app to work with files directly in finder, but we share links to files and folders on slack and in email, etc... Right now we click a link, it opens the browser as expected, we find the file path in browser and then follow that path in finder. That seems like an awful lot of work when we have a direct connection between our finder and dropbox in the app. Perhaps the website could provide a link that connects to the desktop app, opening the folder/file in finder or windows explorer. Seems like a reasonable option to me, but what do others think?

Hi, I’m having a serious issue with Dropbox where many of my files appear in the correct folders on both my computer and on Dropbox.com, but none of those specific files will open. I receive errors like: “Cannot open the file because the file format or file extension is not valid.” Here’s what’s happening: I can see the file names and folder structure in Explorer. I can also see the same file names on Dropbox.com. But when I try to open any of these files (locally or on the web), they fail with format/extension errors. The files appear to be zero‑byte placeholders rather than real files. Most of my other files still exist on my second laptop, but the ones I urgently need do not. These missing files appear in Dropbox, but none of them open anywhere. This all started after repeated issues with the Dropbox sync engine failing to start. Dropbox would install, but the app never launched, no tray icon appeared, and the sync engine seemed to be stuck in a crash loop. I believe this may have caused Dropbox to replace some of my original files with empty placeholder versions. I need help determining: Whether Dropbox has older historical versions of these files stored internally. Whether a data recovery review is possible for these zero‑byte or corrupted placeholder files. Whether Dropbox can confirm if these files ever successfully uploaded before the sync engine failed. These files are extremely important to me, and I’m hoping Dropbox Support can check server‑side logs or historical versions to see if recovery is possible. Thank you for any help or escalation you can provide.
Got thrown out of my Paper Document. Can't reopen it now.
Device Macbook Pro M1 Pro Operating System/Browser (if using the web) macOS12.6 Question or Issue I was working inside of a Paper document I had created. Mid typing I was thrown out of my document. A popup appeared that I lost connection. After restarting my wifi I'm still not able to get back in to the document. I tried a different browsers, private mode, VPN. I also tried opening it on my phone through the Dropbox app. No luck. Tried sharing the document with a friend and still get the same error. Is there any way the progress was atleast saved somewhere so I can acces this and make a backup?Dropbox Paper - images don't load on the web
Similiar to 3 months ago I again have a dropbox paper file that doesn't show pictures that have been uploaded. When I click on the file I get an access denied notification. Very weird as I uploaded the pictures via copy pace. The same issue occured 4 months ago documented in the following community ticket. "Video not available or not supported for this browser" error on Safari
Hi, I have uploaded several videos to a Dropbox folder, but when I try to view on a computer (Mac, Safari (v.26) Mac OS - Tahoe 26 -- recently updated), I get the image below with a "spinning" box. Never had this problem before, and I can download the video back to the computer and it plays fine. I can also view the videos on an iPhone no problem. Btw, seems to work ok on Chrome. Device Normal Desktop comptuer) Operating System/Browser (if using the web) (Windows 10 home Question or Issue When I load into the page, I can briefly see my dropbox files for like 3.46 second before it load this error up: Something went wrong An unexpected error occurred, but don’t worry—your files are safe, and our team has been notified. I trying clearing cache, using different browser, disable all extension, re-install chrome all of it doesn't work. Contacted support but they have no options to do email or live chat even though I am on DROPBOX Plus and it is within 9am to 5pm. So I am sort of stuck
Searching only for specific file types using web interface
I would like to be able to search for specific file types of any kind I like-- not just the subset of types offered in the "Type" dropdown menu. For instance, I want to find only *.des files- nothing else returned. Searching for "*.des" returns a few files with that extension but a lot of files that do not have that extension and, most importantly, not all of the *.des files. This has been raised several times with moderators marking this as resolved, but it really isn't. Apart from *.pdf files, there doesn't seem to be any way to search specific file types. This is a very basic query so I'm rather surprised this feature is not offered.
