dropbox business
157 TopicsWill there be a 2 TB option for personal accounts?
I am running out of space with my 1TB drive. Is there an option to get 2TB? I know about Dropbox for business, with 5 Tb, but the price is just not compatible with my needs. It is too big a jump from 1Tb price to minimum of 5 users at $ 15 each.Solved28KViews31likes70CommentsVAT details missing on Dropbox Pro Invoice
I have gone through the VAT related questions on the forum. It seems, the Dropbox admin is not getting the question. Hence, I am sending a copy of my Dropbox Pro invoice (which does not show Dropbox VAT number nor VAT separately) to HMRC (Tax Department in the UK) as it is a legal obligation in the UK to give a VAT receipt showing VAT number of the seller and VAT rate as well as amount. This is necessary for a business in the UK (and for that matter anywhere in Europe) to claim back the VAT paid on the service. This is not applicable if Dropbox is not collection VAT but it is quite clear that they are charging VAT. Now if they are charging VAT, then they must remit VAT collected to the Office of Revenue Commissioners in Republic of Ireland and we as a user should be able to claim this VAT back if we are using the service for our business and we are VAT registered in any of the EU countries. So it really surprises me to see the reluctance of Dropbox to simply resolve this issue by adding VAT details on the invoice (and it is not that they don't have this facility in their invoicing system because they are already providing VAT invoice for Dropbox for Business subscription) I guess I will leave HMRC to deal with as they have gone quite strong now-a-days with issues like this.Solved12KViews5likes8CommentsMy personal account was accidentally merged into a Business Account
I have a personal Dropbox account for my work as a journalist. My business partner created a new Business Account and invited me to join only to access certain files. When I went to accept the system asked to "merge" the accounts and not understanding what that meant, I clicked yes. Then Dropbox notified me that my personal account was closed and they were refunding me my fee. How do I extricate myself from this? I do not want to own the Business Account or have that for my own Dropbox, I only need access to it. How do I restore my Personal account and revive the subscription? The person who created the new business account says it was a mistake, but doesn't know how to fix it and one can't "call" Dropbox, nor is there a way to change accounts. Hi There, We need to run Bitnami web stacks but the path contains spaces because of the Dropbox folder name. How do we rename the folders so there aren't spaces? Or if we unsubscribe from Dropbox for business (we've found it kind of painful in practice) will the personal dropbox folder name get renamed to 'Dropbox' (without spaces/brackets)? I’m posting this as a warning to other long-term Dropbox business users, particularly anyone who originally had Unlimited storage and was later migrated to a paid tier with retained legacy storage. This is not a rant. It’s a factual account of what happened to me, so others can assess their own risk. Background I was a long-standing Dropbox Business customer on an Unlimited plan. When Dropbox discontinued Unlimited, I was explicitly told that: My existing storage usage would be retained My account would continue functioning as before My monthly cost would increase to reflect the new structure My price went from roughly £70/month to £154+/month, which I accepted in order to keep my storage and business workflows intact. Over time, I built my business around this arrangement and stored ~56TB of client data, some of which I am legally required to retain. What went wrong Recently, my bank temporarily declined a payment after flagging Dropbox as a potential fraud risk. This caused a brief, unintentional billing interruption. Important points: I did not cancel my plan I did not request a downgrade I updated my payment method as soon as I became aware However, during that short interruption: My account was downgraded When I re-upgraded, I was placed onto the current Dropbox Advanced plan My previously retained legacy storage was permanently removed My account now shows a 30TB limit, despite already having ~56TB stored. Dropbox’s position (in their own words) Support confirmed the following: I was notified that my account would be downgraded I was not notified that retained legacy storage would be permanently lost Once downgraded, legacy storage “no longer exists” and cannot be restored There is “no room for escalation” because the features are no longer offered The only option is to pay substantially more for additional licences or storage add-ons In short: A temporary billing issue permanently removed storage that I had already been paying a higher monthly fee to retain. Why this matters to other users If you: Ever had Unlimited Dropbox Were told you could retain your existing storage Are now paying more under a newer plan Store large volumes of business or client data Then your storage is not safe in the way you may assume. Based on my experience: A billing interruption (even involuntary) Can trigger a downgrade Which can permanently remove retained storage With no restoration, review, or escalation available Even if you immediately fix the payment issue. Key takeaway This isn’t about asking for free storage or legacy features. It’s about undisclosed consequences: Being warned about a downgrade is not the same as being warned that previously retained storage will be permanently forfeited Especially when customers have already accepted significant price increases to keep that storage If you rely on Dropbox for large-scale storage, I strongly recommend: Keeping multiple backup copies Reviewing your exact contractual position Understanding that “retained” storage may not survive plan interruptions Why I’m posting this I’m sharing this so other users: Aren’t blindsided the way I was Can make informed decisions Can assess whether Dropbox is still safe as long-term business infrastructure If you’re in a similar position, I’d genuinely like to hear your experience.116Views1like5CommentsAdmin roles without tying up license
We are a smaller company that utilizes Dropbox. We have a handful of licenses and need to tie up 2-3 for our IT team to administer the software. Seems silly since these folks aren't sharing any files. Would like to see an option to have the admin roles without requiring licenses.44Views1like1CommentSelecting the best plan upgrade for a small business
I have been down this road before and while I have been using Dropbox for about 15 or more years, am still confused by the newer offerings for project folder access via teams, etc. We are also very much at a point where we need to understand the best / economical options for our small firm. Am looking for a Dropbox user interface structure that has 1 administrator that can share project folders (individual or all) with up to 3-4 users, and that can grow if needed. Individual users have their own company email for sign in. It would also be beneficial to turn-on and off (ie not pay constant rate) for occasional consultants needing access to individual project folders to collaborate. It would also still be useful to share individual files or folders to outside users. We currently have an Essentials Plus account with 2TB of storage - we only use about 10% of this. There is a "Family Plan" which allows up to 6 users for around $200 per year and then there is a Business Plus which allows 3 users (or more) at $180 a pop per year. The $200 dollar option seems like it would be awesome given the price, but I'm sure there is a catch. Some help in sorting this out or any advice would be much appreciated.264Views1like8CommentsWhy have there been changes to Dropbox Advanced / Business Plus subscriptions?
Dear Dropbox Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing as a long-term subscriber to the Dropbox Advanced / Business Plus plan, which my organization has used since 2017 primarily for file storage (completed projects, library, work hour records, etc.) and file sharing among 2–3 users working on active projects. Over the years, we have observed significant changes to the plan's conditions and pricing, which I would like to bring to your attention: Subscription History: • 2017–2021: €540/year, with unlimited storage included. • 2022: Updated to €648/year (+€108/year), still with unlimited storage. • 2023 onward: Maintained at €648/year, but unlimited storage was replaced by a fixed limit: 15 TB of paid storage (covering 3 licenses and all add-ons). An additional 11 TB valid only until October 31, 2028. Cost Analysis: If we compare these costs with external hard drive solutions: • An 8 TB Seagate Barracuda external drive currently costs less than €150. • 16 TB = 2 drives (€300), 24 TB = 3 drives (€450), 32 TB = 4 drives (€600). Over the years, our total Dropbox expenses are as follows: • 2017–2023: €4,644 (5 × €540 + 3 × €648). Equivalent to 240 TB in external storage (30 drives). • 2017–2028: Projected total €6,588 (5 × €540 + 6 × €648). Equivalent to 344 TB in external storage (43 drives). This raises the question: by 2028, after paying €6,588, we will only have access to 15 TB of permanent storage on the Business Plus plan, which is less competitive compared to other cloud / storage solutions. Policy Impact on Loyal Customers: We understand that some users have misused unlimited storage plans. However, the response to restrict storage capacity significantly impacts regular users who have adhered to fair usage practices. It feels unjust for loyal subscribers of 8+ years to bear the brunt of these policy changes. Request for Consideration: I kindly ask Dropbox to internally escalate this concern and reconsider its storage policy for Business Plus customers. Long-term subscribers deserve a fair and competitive offering that acknowledges their loyalty and business needs with the following adjustments: • Revise the storage limit by gradually increasing the storage for Business Plus subscribers according to their needs. • Evaluate individual cases to ensure that customers like us, who have used the service responsibly, are not unfairly penalized. I am confident that Dropbox values its long-term customers and will take steps to ensure we receive a fair and competitive offering that aligns with our ongoing needs. Thank you for your attention and support in resolving this matter. I look forward to hearing from your team. I have a personal plan, and accepted an invitation to collaborate as a Team on dropbox from a client. Automatically when accepted, all my dropbox folders are part of this client's plan, and my subscription has been cancelled and refunded. The dropbox on my computer has now my client's name. This is not what I intended, I genuinely assumed the invitation was to a shared extra folder. I have written to dropbox, but see no live chat or number is available. How does this can be fixed and reversed to what it was, as soon as possible?Solved3.2KViews1like14Comments
