24 TopicsHow can I delete files from my over-quota Dropbox Basic account without upgrading to a paid plan?
Question or Issue I have a basic free account which is over the storage limit. I'd like to be able to delete some files so that I'm back in compliance as I really don't need much storage since I'm not working anymore. Apparently, I'm not able to do this without upgrading ($ pay more - at least $9.99/month) to a larger account. This is very frustrating. Any way around this aside from paying for a month and then cancelling or something?22Views0likes1CommentWarning! Dropbox Plus “Free Trial”
I was nearing my Dropbox storage limit. I had an increased storage size in my basic account due to many referrals to friends and companies I worked for over many years and taking tutorials in the past. I was offered a “free trial” to Dropbox Plus, with seemingly no option to refuse it. I used the (what I thought of as temporary) time and extra capacity, to do housekeeping in my account and move off a lot of photographs to other storage. With a few days of the so-called trial left to run, I looked for ways to cancel it and return to my former plan. I discovered to my horror that if you do not take up the paid upgrade (at 120 a year), Dropbox does NOT restore your former Dropbox storage limit but drops you to its current basic plan of 2 GB. So, having removed several hundred photos and videos, I now find myself around double the limit with no means of restoring functionality to Dropbox other than by removing more than half the remaining files, negating any purpose in having an account at all. Dropbox was the first and simplest cloud storage/sync solution. It has always worked flawlessly for me. That’s why I have recommended to employers, work colleagues, friend and families for decades. However, this action, a “free” offer, which cannot actually be refused, along with a penalty for not completing an expensive upgrade, that you are not warned of in advance - will drive me away and encourage my contacts to also. It is blatant misrepresentation at best, potential fraud in reality. Be VERY careful to check your storage capacity and current use! Do NOT proceed with the “free” upgrade unless you are prepared to pay. You cannot go back!2.8KViews0likes2CommentsWhy is my account full even after deleting everything?
This is reason number 7 why I use Google Drive. forgive me for my attitude… but I’m sick of this crap! everything I do in Google Drive works perfectly all the time! However… I have 1 client that wants to use Dropbox. Haven't logged in since 2023 because the platform sucks. Reset password and logged in today. Surprise! Got proved right again… my “storage was 700% full”. Old stuff I already have in Google. So, I deleted EVERY folder I had. storage still full! went to deleted items. Deleted EVERY folder there! Their is now ZERO items anywhere inside my account! STILL!!!! Storage is full! Full of what? This is so stupid! Can I sent my client his files before Christmas? No, I can’t. Dropbox is too stupid to update and let me! I’m not giving you 15 bucks so i can send 1.2 gigs to 1 random guy! Can anyone help me or advise?Solved125Views1like12CommentsWhose Dropbox account gets charged for storage space, if we share files with each other?

We don't need business features. We just need more space. It's a pretty simple value prop here for product management to consider. You don't have to add another pricing tier. Just allow an account storage increase option upgrade of at least 1 more TB (and honestly, why not make it larger and charge more). If you think this will cannibalize your business tier, then you haven't differentiated it strongly enough compared to families needs. We don't need support to tell us to delete files we don't need, we know that. What we need is a proper solution. I've been a loyal dropbox user since the beginning, having spent thousands on the product and espoused it to everyone I know who needed a device agnostic storage solution that just works. But can we just fix this please? Thanks for your consideration, -zoofood89Views0likes1CommentMy account stopped syncing, but it seems I'm using 187GB out of the 2GB.
Hi, why is do I keep getting emails/notifications that I'm out of space and Dropbox has stopped syncing and I Must upgrade when I clearly am not out of space? (Using 187.32 GB of 2 GB space on the basic plan). Shouldn't it still be syncing?Solved190Views0likes5CommentsI received an email stating I've used all my promotional space, but this isn't the case.
I received an email from Dropbox this morning that basically contains lies. Now I know misinformation is becoming the norm over the pond, but I'd like to think that here in the UK we can keep a reasonable amount of truth in our communications. The email (below) claims I have used all of the free 100GB Dropbox allocated me when I purchased an HP laptop. However, a simple look at my quota used shows that not to be the case. I'd like to think that this is some form of "mistake", but I feel it is a cynical attempt to get those who are not IT savvy to worry they are about to lose information and subscribe to an upgrade they do not need. Anyone else getting these lies sent them??Solved105Views0likes2CommentsIf I upgrade but someone else doesn't can they still access shared folders?
I'm on the basic dropbox plan (2GB) and my storage is full so I was going to upgrade but I have an important shared folder that is going to exceed 2GB. If I upgrade to the next tier will the other person (who hasn't upgraded past 2GB) still be able to open the shared folder or will they also have to upgrade?Solved107Views0likes1CommentI deleted all my files, but I'm still out of space.
Hi there! I am sorry to bother you maybe this topic has already been covered. My question is , since I have deleted all my files (permanent delete) from my Dropbox account , why does Dropbox still demands from me to upgrade? Thank you182Views0likes1Comment
