Solved

Copy file names within a folder

I am unable to copy multiple file names as text.

I need to export file names from Dropbox.

  • In case anyone out there still need this info, I happened upon a work around...

Select all the file folders or documents you want to copy the names of, right click and select "Send a Copy".

The next page will pull up the full list of the files you had selected from the previous screen (except now they are in a highlightable, Ctrl C, Ctrl V format 🙂 )

One downside is it lists all the MB/KB of the files... So when you paste into Excel:

Insert a "Helper Column" and then sort based on that.

    Hope this helps! 🙂

    -Ashley

    Dropbox has no such feature.

Hi filesentandreceive thanks for messaging the Community!

While it isn't possible to generate a list of filenames directly via the Dropbox site or app, it might be possible when using the Dropbox API.

If you have the Dropbox desktop application installed and syncing, it might also be possible to create a list of filenames using commands in your OS on the Dropbox folder itself.

Keep me updated with any progress!

    Hi Jay,

    Thanks for your response.

Syncing the files locally occupies a lot of space for me.

Hence I was checking for an alternative method.

Do let me know if there is any alternative method.

    Appreciate your help.

Since there isn't a way to do this from the site currently, I'll leave this thread open for other users to post their suggestions on this matter.

You are amazing for this! There is probably 1000 different ways that Dropbox could create a solution for the paying users who have been asking for this feature for years, alas we have to rely on kind internet strangers to fix this simple problem. Dropbox, if you're reading this, please create a way to view folders in this "view transfers" screen, but put the file size in a different column so we can select just the file names easily. This seems like the most simple solution here... Come on... you're so close... I know you can do it...

Holy moly! Its a year later from when you posted this workaround, and I can honestly say you are my favorite person on the internet right now. This completely saved me. Can't thank you enough for posting Ashley!
