Excel files not opening on Chromebook

Help!  I'm at  my wits end with a chromebook and excel docs.  It was working perfectly and all of a sudden it no longer wants to open up any excel docs.  We get a page that states that it is not supported?

 

Please help as this is used daily in our small office!
