how do I transfer photos from dropbox to my computer and delete them from my dropbox?
I want to move all my photos/files from dropbox to an external hard drive, remove them from my dropbox without delete any photos by mistake or anything. This is to organize my photos and files properly, so I can use my dropbox as a temporarily back up for my more recent photos which is why I wanted to use dropbox as in the first place!
There are several photos on my dropbox that doesn't show in my dropbox-app for my pc but I have a lot of old pictures there and I don't want to delete them, only remove them from dropbox and keep them on my computer. I have approximately 231 recent photos(on my phone) that I can't save on my dropbox because I don't have enough space. But I don't want to upgrade since I don't really need that much space. I just want to transfer them to an external hard drive via my computer.
I'm not good in English, but I hope someone understand what I want to do and can help me!
Hello everyone,
To download all the files you have stored in your Dropbox safely , you can do it either by using the Dropbox app on your computer or by downloading the mmanually on the website.
Using the Dropbox app:
Once you install the Dropbox app on your computer and the syncing is complete, you can unlink Dropbox from your device. Then you can move your Dropbox folder and store it wherever you want and do permanent changes to your computer that do not sync back to the website.
Download from www.dropbox.com
You can download the entire contents of a folder from dropbox.com in a ZIP file.
Note: It's not possible to use dropbox.com to download an entire folder that's over 1 GB or that has over 10,000 files
Additionally, If you run out of Dropbox space, there are a few things you can do to get more!
Thanks!
- Dropbox takes up no more storage (bar the install files of a 100mb or so?) than the files you have stored on it articangel333 - because they are simply in a folder like all others

This note is for Skills F. December 22, 2015 14:19 post.
I followed your instructions and all worked perfectly. Once I moved my photos and looked at the steps it all made sense.
Thanks for the help

Hi everyone, I'm just moving my photos to my external HD now and I have realized (forgive me if this has been mentioned already ) that when I am within Dropbox online/ web I can't drag and drop anything to my Desktop/ HD etc...(obviously repeated the mistake 20 times to be sure :P )
...but when I open the Dropbox FOLDER icon ..all files are listed as almost a real copy, and these we can move about! yay! :)
So at the top of my Mac browser is the Dropbox icon..when I click on this there's a folder and world (wide web) icon in grey, top left, you want the folder.
Then when they are safely over you can delete from Dropbox and clear up some space.
Best of luck!

I was looking for help, too. My experience is I must spend the time to take them off one by one. Taking off hundreds of photos will take time. Either that, or spend a significant amount of time looking for answers that apparently don't exist when you could be spending that hour downloading to your computer. Seems to be how people want to share them with me. Easier for THEM to share, a nightmare for ME to download each and every one! All I can say is I am happy that I never thought it was a good way to store my own pictures! I'll stick to my computer hard drive. Good luck everyone.

I don't know if this will help anybody or not, but I was having the same issue (wanting the photos from Dropbox's "cloud" to be on my computer hardrive). Here is what worked for me... (I have a Mac (perhaps a PC works similar to this regarding Dropbox?)..
1) I downloaded the Dropbox Desktop App to my computer.
2) In the "margin" of my "Finder" (for PC, this might be "Computer" folder), I see the words "Dropbox" appear when I sign in to Dropbox.
3) I click on that. Within that folder I see folders such as, "Apps", "Camera Uploads", "Getting Started", and a folder that was personally named (that someone took of me in a photoshoot that they had sent me through Dropbox and which I was looking for).
When I looked through these folders, I found my pics. It was like my Desktop App had somehow synced my pics into this folder which I could now drag and drop all the pics into any folder I want...which is pretty cool :)
I think someone in Dropbox advanced the program, which I really appreciate a lot! Thanks Dropbox for creating new solutions! (But please make it more obvious for users, as well as an easy-to-find instructions/help on how to do this...in case some people prefer to use Dropbox as a temporary holding place, but not permanent holding place).
Hope this helps! :) :)

I have an answer: on the left-hand list of options of your Dropbox online, click Photos. It will have all your photos arranged by date. I have no idea why it does this, but so it is. Once you're there, hover your mouse over a photo. You can select individual photos, or use the Select button in the top right of the date-based group, to select all in that date's photos.
Once you've selected, a bar will appear across the top of screen, with buttons are for share with Facebook, Twitter etc. The white button with three dots gives you more options. Click the Download option, it will allow you to save a zip to your computer. Once you've extracted the files from the zip, there are your photos, in your computer.
