how do I transfer photos from dropbox to my computer and delete them from my dropbox?
I want to move all my photos/files from dropbox to an external hard drive, remove them from my dropbox without delete any photos by mistake or anything. This is to organize my photos and files properly, so I can use my dropbox as a temporarily back up for my more recent photos which is why I wanted to use dropbox as in the first place!
There are several photos on my dropbox that doesn't show in my dropbox-app for my pc but I have a lot of old pictures there and I don't want to delete them, only remove them from dropbox and keep them on my computer. I have approximately 231 recent photos(on my phone) that I can't save on my dropbox because I don't have enough space. But I don't want to upgrade since I don't really need that much space. I just want to transfer them to an external hard drive via my computer.
I'm not good in English, but I hope someone understand what I want to do and can help me!
Hello everyone,
To download all the files you have stored in your Dropbox safely , you can do it either by using the Dropbox app on your computer or by downloading the mmanually on the website.
Using the Dropbox app:
Once you install the Dropbox app on your computer and the syncing is complete, you can unlink Dropbox from your device. Then you can move your Dropbox folder and store it wherever you want and do permanent changes to your computer that do not sync back to the website.
Download from www.dropbox.com
You can download the entire contents of a folder from dropbox.com in a ZIP file.
Note: It's not possible to use dropbox.com to download an entire folder that's over 1 GB or that has over 10,000 files
Additionally, If you run out of Dropbox space, there are a few things you can do to get more!
Thanks!
- Dropbox takes up no more storage (bar the install files of a 100mb or so?) than the files you have stored on it articangel333 - because they are simply in a folder like all others

Folks seem to be doing a lot of extra time consuming work here. When I set up Dropbox, there's a Dropbox folder in Users/myusername (similar on Win and Mac). In that folder I put folders that I want synchronized across all my computers and on Dropbox cloud. If you put your photos folder in the Dropbox folder, they will be synchronized (and not moved, normally) to the cloud. If you set up another device (I use an iPad for example), whatever is in the Dropbox folder will then download and be also on the other device.
This gives a wonderful sense of safety (with one caveat) since the same files are in multiple places. The one caveat is that it also synchronizes deletes. So if you delete a file on your computer, that will delete the file on Dropbox cloud and all your devices set up to synchronize. This can be super scary if you don't have a second type of backup. In other words, Dropbox is great for synchronization but you still need another type of backup such as to an external hard drive or two.
But by all means set up synchronization so you don't have to do the "few files at a time" thing. Not necessary.

As a Technical Writer, the Dropbox "help" on this subject SUCKS! If you want to delete many photos you have to click on a date in the right hand side of the Timeline display. Then click Select and it selects all of the photos for that date. Right click and select delete X number of photos. Thanks to the USER who led me to this solution.

If everyone is having the same problem with Dropbox, it seems they are scamming all of us. My daughter sent our Hawaii vacation photos through dropbox and now everything I upload goes directly there, which I didn't want! Of course, I'm almost out of space and they want to sell me more. I quit putting photos on my computer until I can figure out how to get my pictures back and get uninstall Dropbox. I'm not very tech savvy so I'm afraid to try some of the suggestions I'm reading. I think the class action suit sounds like a good idea!

Karen,
MY problem was that my camera was uploading all its photos to dropbox! There is a setting on the mobile dropbox that allows you to turn that off. Not sure if that addresses YOUR issue...
Also under the web version, there is a place to link/unlink devices under Settings>Security

An easier solution for Mac users. When you see the folder of your photos in the Dropbox home page list, don't click on the folder, click on a blank space in the same line. This will bring up a menu bar at the top of that home page list. Click Open from the menu bar.
A window will open for Mac users(I am using a MacBook Pro) with that folder and the photos in it. Draw a box around all of the photos to select them. Drag and drop them into Photos on Mac(by having Photos already open in another window). They will copy the photos automatically. Wait until they are all there it takes a minute especially if there are any videos.
