Opening .JPG or RAW files out of Dropbox folder in other apps (Lightroom, Snapseed etc)
Hello world. Till today to open a selected file (e.g. .jpeg) from my Dropbox folder in Lightroom or other editor I just long tapped the image and the drop menu showed "Open with...." - then I could ...

I see, thanks for keeping me in the loop here.
Another way to go about this, would be to open the photo, tap on the "..." (ellipsis) button, save the image to the device and then open it with your third party apps through there.
Or even better, open the file from the Dropbox folder location in your Files app and open it with the third party apps from there.
That should also save the changes on the file to Dropbox automatically, without having to re-upload it manually.

I'm having a similar problem where the application used to open files stored on Dropbox is, 'dropbox'. This is useless as you cannot open a jpeg in the dropbox app. As a Mac, the default is Preview and this creates an error. I can work around by opening the Get Info, but this is something that happened with the recent update to the way Dropbox handles data. Additionally, the upgrade has changed the Documents and Desktop on my MacBook to alias therefore no longer under my control NOT HAPPY. PLEASE help

4 years agoHey cichti, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Could you please clarify your device's exact OS version and the version and status of the Dropbox desktop app as shown in your menu bar?
Did you enable the Dropbox Backup feature at some point perhaps?

started in MacOS 12.5, upgraded to Ventura 13.0.1. I get the problem on my MacBook as it does not have the memory to download everything like my iMac (both the same OS's). Spent time on a chatroom today with Dropbox with the promise that the problem would be escalated but nothing
Also spent 2 hours with Apple help where we uncovered it happened exactly when we did the upgrade a week ago - I trusted Dropbox when they said it was just a reorganisation. Kinda stuffed a lot of things up for the MacBook
