It seems that the interface and how this works has been recently altered. I will pass on your comments to the relevant departments since we value your needs on how Dropbox fits into and influences your daily routine.

I am experiencing the same problem. The date I took the photo was the primary way I used to find photos when I uploaded files into folders.

    Coltsinohio  I am glad to see I wasn't imagining this. Please let me know if you find a solution. I'm losing my mind without the dates.
