sync
337 TopicsLarger folder refuse to become available offline on my PC.
Hi all, I have a Dropbox Plus account and wish to save files for offline access. I can do this by toggling Offline Access in Preferences with some folders but for the larger folders Dropbox refuses to let the files download and all is only available online. There is plenty of storage on my PC or external drives that I have tried with. Does Dropbox have a limit on folder size that it will sync like this? Any tips as to what I am doing wrong? /steve46Views0likes3CommentsUnexpectedly syncing an enormous amount of files and constant crashing
TL;DR - Many files seem to be indexing for no reason, some seem to be downloading locally, dropbox app is crashing every 5 minutes, I've tried most of the troubleshooting techniques, and have no solution for what I'm facing here. For the past week or so, Dropbox has been indexing in excess of 20,000 files without any user input (and seems to be downloading some files without any instruction or input from me). It has also been unexpectedly crashing within a few minutes of starting up. I have tried just about every troubleshooting option in the book: - Advanced Reinstall + Selective Sync (did not fix anything, waste of time) - Fix Hardlinks / Permissions (did not fix anything) - Relinking Account (did not fix anything, although it did seem to go through all of my files and end up getting stuck again) - Selective Sync (which does not work at all) - Removing Some Files that were recently added (did not fix anything, still had the same amount of files indexing/syncing) - Selecting "Online Only" for the whole Dropbox folder as some files seem to be downloading for no reason at all (didn't seem to work, it did seem to make the problem worse if anything) What I am currently doing: - Checking the Windows Indexing settings to see if this will fix/subdue the issue I am yet to try: - Relinking Account in conjunction with Selective Sync and seeing if that does anything, but I am reluctant to try this again if it will just get stuck. The number of files being indexed seems to vary between 19,000 and 23,000, however, this figure has been going up recently. Every single file is showing the "blue sync icon", so finding the troublesome files are impossible at this stage, and it has been very stable with around 4 million files, so not sure what has triggered this to happen. I would usually upload around 500GB at a time, and the Dropbox app would take it like a champ and just get the job done, now, however, it doesn't seem to like anything I do with it. What has happened on my PC recently: - I had placed a small batch of files into my Dropbox folder (around 120GB or so, I am reluctant to delete my entire Dropbox directory and start again in fear of unsynced files.) [I have taken out some of these files and this did not seem to fix anything.] - Windows Updates I had a similar issue around a month ago, and somehow happened to fix it by taking files out that I had recently placed inside the Dropbox folder. It seems as though now, this solution does not seem to fix anything. I understand that I have some 4.2 million files in my Dropbox, and I have been trying to selective sync to reduce this amount to improve performance, however, it seems to be an impossible loop of crashing and indexing/syncing. I have a fairly high-powered system so I expect this indexing to be completed rather quickly, however, it has been doing this and crashing for the past 5+ days or so. Please help! I have a number of files I've brought over to Dropbox using the finder on my Mac, that I have then marked as online only, in hopes that it would upload the files and then remove them from my local storage, which is limited. However Dropbox keeps randomly re-downloading the files to my system even after telling it that I want the files to be online only. This feature is supposed to "save hard disk space", which it does seem to do temporarily before it just starts downoading things again. It seems as though the only safe way to keep files from my drive is the old fashioned selective sync from preferences, but this is a backward way of working, especially when I want to have the folder show up on my local drive so I can bring files into it, but I may want those files to only live online. Has anyone found a solution to this abnormal behaviour (that, once again I might add, was forced on us as justification to increase the price of the paid service)?20KViews15likes77CommentsFiles do not get automatically synced on Mac, I need to download them.
Hi there, I am experiencing an issue with files added by other users after installing the new Dropbox on MAC OS 13.1 (22C65). I need the files to be downloaded automatically to my drive instead of having to download them manually. This does not happen. I have Dropbox system extension as off. What else can be done?Solved11KViews1like34Comments"There was an error downloading your file" when trying to download using the browser.
Hi, I am having issues downloading a folder in Dropbox. It comes up with the error "there was an error downloading your file". It doesn't seem to matter what computer/browser/internet I use. I exported a .band file (GarageBand project) to Dropbox, then later copied it and tried to open it again on GarageBand. I got an error that GarageBand couldnât read the file format. When I contacted Apple/GarageBand support they told me that Dropbox doesnât save these project files on the right format. Hello, I'm very new to dropbox and e-readers so I'm still trying to figure things out. I've purchased a book via an online seller (bol.com) and downloaded it from their site. Now I'm trying to get it from my laptop to my pocketbook. There's two ways to do it: e-mail it to me or upload it via dropbox. The e-mailing part is very slow for some reason so I want to use dropbox. It's very easy to just upload it to the right folder but everytime I try to download it from this folder I get an error saying that I'm trying to upload/download a file that I might not have purchased and that's why dropbox has kept me from downloading it. How do I fix this?Solved11KViews0likes1CommentIs there no way to unzip a folder within Dropbox?

Re-upload that file type back to DB Anyone know of any easier process? or Icloud storage that does this so I can switch? Hello, I'm a long time Dropbox user, I've run into an issue with my Dropbox desktop application "Syncing 20 files" constantly for the past few weeks, though I've seemingly not changed anything about how I use the app. This is a problem that's already been well documented in the forums for various reasons, so I'll list all of the things I've tried using other forum posts: MacOS 12.4 (Apple M1) Dropbox v152.4.4880 - Reinstalling the app - Checking dropbox.com settings, like "Early releases" is off "Dropbox system extension" is on "Online-only files on Mac" is on - Checking application settings, like "Enable LAN sync" is off Bandwidth View sync issues (empty) - Using the advanced functions in the application settings, like "Fix permissions" "Fix hardlinks" - Check MacOS Activity Monitor - Searching Finder for the files that have the blue syncing status icon - Looking for any file names that have unsupported characters in them There are about 31k files in the main folder, and no individual file is larger than 1 or 2gb, so nothing out of the ordinary there. I saw a few posts about file name or file depth / path length, but I would have no idea where to start with diagnosing that, especially because as far as I've seen, all files are synced properly. When opening up the Dropbox folder, I've Alt-Click to expand and view all files and folders in the drive. I've then slowly scrolled through to view the status of each file and folder (you have to sometimes wait for Dropbox to update that many green checks / blue sync icons). Doing it this way, I couldn't find any file that wasn't either a Green Checkmark or a White Checkmark/Grey Cloud. The only folder that shows a blue sync icon is at the very top level: All other files and folders look something like this: While running, the app isn't taking up a relevant amount of CPU doing this, and it continues to sync new and changed files properly... so that's good. This wouldn't even be such an issue except that if I check network activity in the MacOS Activity Monitor, I can see that sometimes (but not always) it's constantly uploading or downloading packets of data, larger than just a few bytes (like 0.5mb every few seconds). Also worth noting that it will never change to below 20, but for example if I add 1 new file, it will briefly say 21, before that new file then syncs and it returns to being stuck at 20. It may also be worth noting that when first starting the app, it will give a short time estimation to sync the 20 files, which will slowly increase for a few seconds, until it hits 30 or 40s, and then that estimation text will disappear entirely: Does anybody have any additional suggestions on this? My workaround right now is to select "Pause file sync... Until tomorrow" every morning when I log into my computer. Is there a way for the support or dev team to do some sort of hard reset on all my files' sync status or something? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!! FosterSolved24KViews2likes14Comments
