When opening a Word doc on the web, its original font appears in bold.
My office shares and edits unlinked docs and I'm then responsible for accepting the edits and uploading the final doc to Dropbox. Recently, I've been unable to upload the doc with it keeping its formatting and fonts. It will be formatted correctly on my OS desktop but when I save it and upload it, the fonts in the preview are bold. When I then go to open it in word for the web, I get this error:
If I choose to open it in reader view, it reverts back to the correct formatting. I have checked and the font is in my font book and have no clue what could be causing this.
formatting on my desktop app
Formatting after uploading and opening in preview
Formatting after opening as read only in word for web
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hey benurawesome, can you confirm that the font remains the same as it was when uploaded, when you try to download the file from your Dropbox account?
I have to admit that based on the error message, there seems to be an issue with how Microsoft reads and opens these fonts, so I'm not entirely sure this is coming from our side.
Have you checked the embedded fonts and specifically changed the restricted fonts, as the error indicates?

Thanks for testing this further! If you try to open the document with the Times New Roman font via Word for the web on another browser/incognito window, do you still get the same error?

When saying that your office is sharing those documents, you mean that they share them outside of Dropbox and then you upload them to our platform, correct?
largely, but they sometimes also upload drafts and are able to do so using the same formatting and fonts. I can open and edit their uploads in word for the web without issue and they are using the same font (Avenir Next LT Pro).
Were you able to successfully upload and open documents with the exact same font via Dropbox in the past and preview them correctly?
I believe so. I just uploaded a test doc with different font which opened just fine, so I then uninstalled and reinstalled avernir next lt pro and changed it again in the doc and uploaded it again. The same error occurred.
Edit: I changed all fonts in the doc to times new roman and tried to upload it. It did not preview as all bold but it still would not open in outlook for web.

Thanks for posting on our Community, benurawesome!
It sounds like this font is incompatible with Word for the web (which is different to the Microsoft Word app you may have installed on your computer), but let's check a few things first.

Let me know more details and we’ll have a look.
