When previewing audio files on Dropbox, the playback skips or drops out. Any ideas?
Hello, just wondered if any other music tech-y people have had any trouble with glitchy audio files when using Dropbox to share them? A track that I have mixed and bounced down on my studio pc, whic...

The problems you describe sound similar to the ones I encountered (and am still encountering from time to time), but in my case it's just playing from Dropbox directly that is problematic. If I download the files or choose "make available offline" the problem disappears. If you are finding that Dropbox is actually changing your stored files, this is much more worrying!

Yes. I have downloaded the files on multiple machines and found the artifacts to be consistent in exactly the same places on the files. However, the original files, which are not stored in the Dropbox folder, are fine.
This is very worrying because when I send a client a file I want to be able to trust that it is the same file that originated on my computer! It should be an exact copy, and not a proxy. I do not want a compressed version that has been run through some behind the scenes data compression software that I am not aware of. I want them to get the same file, byte for byte.
Worse still, can you imagine backing up to Dropbox, only to find that all your audio files have been changed in random ways!?

Wow. This was going on a year ago and now it's back. This is why I started using WeTransfer, Google Drive, and all these alternate servers. Why am I paying Dropbox? Audio is all I do. Needs to be right on the other end and hassle free. I wish they would take the resources away from giving out "badges" because we're on here and rectify this.

Woo I got a badge, shame they can't spend more time and resources on fixing the audio glitch problem. I have actually stopped using Dropbox for sending mp3s and wavs as it's so unreliable.

Are there any updates on this, or recommended workarounds? My mp4 video preview is un-listenable in Safari, but works fine I Chrome on OS X. Are there other file types that might work? I've tried converting to a .mov but that has the same result. Happy to share the file if it helps debug.

It seems the audio problem has been addressed, though I don't know whether it's related to your problem with video files. That might be worth raising a separate ticket for if it's still happening.
- zw5 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Sorry, how do I raise a ticket? Haven't found how on this site.

I can't believe this is still happening.... I just opened a ticket with support, I really do not want to change provider after so many years!

Yeah, I just answered their questions.
It is a funny one as of yesterday it was happening on a desktop browser while today it's "only" happening on my phone. Now, before anyone says the issue is with my iphone speakers, I can tell you that I can reproduce any other sound with no issues whatsoever, I can also reproduce the file on a google drive with no problems. This is just happening when playing those mp4 on dropbox, either via the app itself or a link on the iphone browser.

Thanks for the additional information Barbylucedistelle - much appreciated.
Have you tried clearing the app's cache since you first noticed it by the way?
- Barbylucedistelle3 years agoNew member | Level 2
Yes, I just did, restarted the app and it's still happening.

Did you log out of your account and then back in during the process Barbylucedistelle?
Is this happening with a single file or is it affecting all of your mp4 files?
- Barbylucedistelle3 years agoNew member | Level 2
I uninstalled and installed the app again. It is now happening with all mp4 files.
I only noticed because the editor I sent the file to via dropbox flagged it to me yesterday, he texted me asking why the sound was crackling so I went checking in the app on the phone and there it was. I am asking him to try again as I do not have this issue on the desktop, now waiting for him to get back to me.

would be great to have keyboard shortcuts for playing videos on web browser, e.g.
left arrow - skip backward
right arrow - skip forward
I know, left and right arrow is reserved for previous and next file, can be used other keyboard, but these would be logical.
