Convert Personal Folders to Teams Folders

Back in the day there were sharing limitations for Teams folders.  You basically couldn't "share" a subfolder of a Teams folder.  This limitation appears gone.  Yeah!  If I'm wrong please let me know.

With the new look on the desktop client, I'm considering converting my shared personal folders to Teams folders so they show up at the root instead of under my name.

My questions are:

1. It doesn't look like I can just take an existing personal folder and make it a Teams folder.  It looks like I have to create a new Teams folder and then move everything into it.  Is this correct?

2. If I have to create a new Teams folder and move files, will all the existing date stamp information be preserved?  I'd prefer if creation and modification dates are not changed.

Thanks!

Hi cafnetmatt, thanks for messaging the Community!

You would need to create a team folder and then move files into that folder.

Moving them via the Dropbox site would result in a change of the modification date. Creation and modification dates would depend on your how your OS would define those two values, and generally, those aren't changed when moving to another folder.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

It sounds like I should move them via the desktop client.  I'm primarily on a Mac so I'll probably use rsync since that allows me to preserve file attributes.  I'll have to try it on something small first.
