Deleting Files and folder from a full basic dropbox account

I currently have a Dropbox Basic account which is at 3.93GB and out of space. I have been trying for some time to find a way to delete some of the folders/files to free up space prior to deciding which upgrade I am likely to require - plus, professional or business.

When I hover over the file or folder and click the "…" (ellipsis). i do not get the Delete option.  What I get is "REMOVE ME, DOWNNLOAD and ADD COMMENT" when I click the three dots .

Can anybody help??

  • Hi Jay,

How long should deleting 3.93GB take approximately? I set the backup to delete just after receiving your last email and it is still "Deleting PC Backup from Dropbox".

    Regards Graham

Hi Graham_12, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Are you trying to delete a file, folder or shared folder from the main page?

Is it possible that your quota is being used up by a shared folder or backup, which you can see from this page?

This will help me to assist further!

    Hi Jay,

Yes this is correct, I have two options when I click on the three dots on the folder in the page that the link takes me to. Is this a backup? can I delete it? or save it to another drive so that I can delete files/folders in my dropbox?

If I choose the delete option does it delete all my files in my dopbox? I can remove most of them but there ar a couple that I need to keep.

    Regards

    Graham

    Jay,

The link that you suggested in your previous email (see below)

Thanks, this would delete the backup and disable the feature. It won't delete any files from your machine, only the specific backup from your Dropbox account.

It's not an instant deletion, so I'd give it a little bit of time for the files to be removed from your account.

    Hi Jay,

I have tried deleting the file but it is still showing and my Dropbox has only gone down to 3.25GB from 3.93GB.

Any other suggestions as I am still getting "View Folder & Remove Me" on some folders and Remove Me, Download or Add Comment on others as options when I click on the three dots in the shared folder.

    Regards

Graham ny other suggestions as I am still getting "View Folder & Remove Me" options when I click on the three dots.

If the backup is still appearing there, then it hasn't fully deleted from your account. Could you try again with a different browser to see if this helps?
