Files missing from Dropbox that I didn't delete. How can I recover them?

I just checked my dropbox (Dropbox basic) after months (maybe a year or two?) of not using it. It was at it's capacity so I started a new dropbox with a different email and more or less just stopped using the original dropbox. I just went into the old one to recover some files only to notice that the most important folder with loads of video/audio/media is gone. I don't see anything in the history log that would indicate I did anything to delete it. These files are very important to me and they're now just gone. Dropbox WAS my backup so this is extremely disappointing. I'm not sure if there is a way to recover the files at this point but any help would be much appreciated. Please and thank you!

Device: iPhone 16, macbook pro
Operating System/Browser: Mac Sonoma 14.5, google chrome
Dropbox App Version (if using the app)

    Thats your issue I'm afraid.

Free accounts have the data wiped after 12 months of inactivity. There are multiple emails sent out before this occurs, however, once it happens the data is not recoverable I'm afraid.

    Hi Jordan14, thanks for posting.

As Mark stated, if a Dropbox account hasn't been accessed for over 12 months, then it would be deactivated due to inactivity.

If you have any old desktop devices which previously synced to that old account, then they might still contain the data on that account on the machine.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.
