Lost data after my company changed my account to my company email
Q: when I was set up for my company they used my personal email for dropbox set up....I used it for several months and they just last week they changed it to my company email. I lost all my data that I put in the folders for two month...it's not deleted, but I believe when the night processed ran it removed the files out of my personal email to match the company dropbox...can anyone help.
again they are not in the deleted folder under my personal email to retrieve. I was going to pay the $119 to rewind, but wasn't sure that would even work since they were sync'd and removed...please advise. thanks

Hi jblankenship
That isnt how Dropbox works - if they move you to a business account it doesnt 'delete' anything, it creates an account with either the work email OR a folder in the account with all the data.
If there is nothing in Events or Deleted then the account you are using now has no data in it and is not recoverable - as its empty and brand new.
Have you tried just logging in with your old email and password to see what happens via an incognito window?

Hi Mark,
I have logged in my personal email and the files are not in there either. how can they just disappear then? it's odd.

and it's not just one file, it's a lot of them.

Hey jblankenship, I'm not very clear on what happened exactly; did your company just change the email address associated with your already existing account?
Or did they create a new account for you?
Did you check your events page, like Mark suggested, while logged in with your personal email?

Hi Hannah,
R: I did look at the add and deleted items in the event page. The files that I'm looking for are not listed in the history on the event page.
What happened: my account was set up under my personal email. My boss changed the account to my work email. When I log back into my personal email I still can not see these files that were in my personal email dropbox and are not in my work dropbox...(I can't see in either dropbox).

Hi from me as well, jblankenship. Can you double check with your boss what steps they followed exactly before the issue occurred?
Did they just follow these steps to update your Dropbox email address, or did they remove the account under your personal email address and invited you again under your work email address instead?
I believe this is the key to understanding what may have happened here, as this is a bit odd indeed.

HI Nancy,
even if he did just invite me under my work email, why can I not see the files signing into my personal email?

You're really not providing enough information for us to be able to answer that. It's still not clear what type of account you had (i.e. individual or part of a Business team), and if it was part of a team, exactly how was the change made... the exact steps taken.
For instance, if you were part of a team account and they removed you from the team, the account would be deleted and you could be signing into a new personal account that wouldn't have access to the files you had previously. Or if they only changed the email address on your account, nothing should change other than the email.
It's also not clear where the files were stored. Were they only in your account and no one else could access them? Were they in a folder that was shared with other people? etc.
This is why we need to know the exact steps that were taken first to invite you, assuming you were in a shared folder or a team account, and then for whatever was done to put you in the state you're in now.
