New named Dropbox structure
I am a user of DropBox Business, on Windows 10.
Last week, I suddenly realized that the shortcuts to some of my Dropbox folders were broken.
A quick look learned me that the structure had changed.
While I used to access my folder through:
C:/User/{username}/Dropbox (COMPANY NAME)/, I can now find them at:
C:/User/{username}/{COMPANY NAME} Dropbox/MyFirstName LASTNAME/
Now, both structures seem to remain while the first one is now a hidden shortcut (although I can't seem to see where it links to).
So that I don't really know where my files actually are.
Is this change documented anywhere?
Thanks
After a couple of days, I realized this happened to all of this Dropbox Business users across the company, Mac and Windows, and that it messes up with backup strategies.
I didn't find anything about this new structure in DropBox's changelog.

Hey mpraymond511, it sounds like your Dropbox Business team is going through this change.
With this folder structure, you can move a shared folder from the member folder (folder with your name) to the team space (the space outside the member folder, that the whole team can access).
However, some requirements need to be met:
1. The user needs to have edit access to the folder they are trying to move. To check this:
a. Click Share to the right of the folder.
b. See Can edit to the right of the individual user or group.
2. The Manage access setting needs to be set to Folder members. To check this, follow the steps below:
a. Click Manage to the right of the folder.
b. Click Folder settings.
c. See Folder members from the dropdown next to Manage access.
3. The folder is owned by someone on the same team as the person who’s moving it into the team space.
I hope this helps!

My company has been having an issue with Dropbox for the last month.
My company has one large dropbox folder, within contains many other folders. There is one folder all employees have access to. It is called Employee Resources. About a month ago, our owner and myself (an admin) had new folders show up with our names on them. And then certain folders that normally live in our one large dropbox folder were moved into these folders. And we are unable to move them out. It says the folder is read-only. And we do not have the permission to move anything.
I reached out to Dropbox support and they were not remotely helpful. Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone have ANY insight?

Your Dropbox team received the file system update. Your team admin would have received notice that this was going to happen.
... links to my work folders and projects are saying the folders and content don't exist, but I can still access them manually from my account. Can someone help explain what happened and what I can do to make those links work again? When you link to a file or folder within an application, most applications use the full path to the linked file. If the linked files move or change paths, the links will break and the application will be unable to find the linked files. In such a case, you need to update the links in the files so they point to the new location.

It sounds like you're referring to the file system update for Team accounts. There is no option to revert to the previous version.

The latest update (October 2023) has reorganised our folders. Shared business folders have been moved into Personal folders, not by anyone in the organisation but by the update. We would like an option to revert to the old folder structure. The folders should never have been moved; it's not Dropbox's data and Dropbox have no rights to decide how it should be filed.

Well this is back. I just got a DB email that my account will be updated 9/23/23. I went in and postponed it for as long as possible which was 11/13/23.
I do not use Team Folders. I have several users and we use shared folders (not team). We also share with users outside our org that have non business accounts. It is not clear what happens to shared folders. Do they just stay in each user personal folders?
Here is the link to "what is changing."

Here is my 8/22/22 post on Page 4 of this thread.
I think same applies so figured I would repost.- We really do no use team folders. I have only one team folder noted as a test folder and it is empty.
- Since we are not using team folders and each user just has their own folders, will that be the same as each user having personal folder on this new DB and all their subfolders will be there at the same subfolder locations?
- Who can see files in the personal folder? Just the user or also an admin?
- What happens to shared folders? Do they remain personal folders and remain shared to both internal and external users?
- Are share folders moved for each user and remain shared? I have shared folders to external users and they may have moved that folder to another location in their DB. I did the same with an internal user. Will the shared folder be in the same location in the users personal folders?
- What happens to shared links to files? Do they remain the same?
On Mapping, I found this article.

The naming convention of the Dropbox folder will change from “Dropbox [team name]” to “[Team name] Dropbox”.
Right now, the DB Folder has a path like
C:\Users\john\Dropbox (TEAM)
Will the new one be this?
C:\Users\john\(TEAM) Dropbox
Each team member will now have their own personal folder called a team member folder. Will it look like this:
C:\Users\john\(TEAM) Dropbox\John
All other content, including shared folders, will be moved to each member’s team member folder.
We do not use Team Folders. I have one that is a test that only I am a member of
Existing team folders will move to the team space. Will the one team folder I have appear like this?
C:\Users\john\(TEAM) Dropbox\TEAM\Test

Same here, we kept deferring until we just gave up, but then shortly before the target date, we were postponed due to high demand. And..... have heard nothing back since. Which is good. This was an all around bad idea and I have absolutely no idea what bonehead thought it would be good to do a "free upgrade" that messed with the file hierarchy and throw a good number of paying businesses into chaos. I sincerely hope they have given up on this and realized just how stupid it was. I'm hoping someone got fired, and now those that are left are trying to figure out the next corrective move. That said, it would be nice if you could give paying customers a bit more insight into WTF is going on and more visibility into future development plans. This isn't a a consumer service we're paying for, we have an entire business relying on it, and there is a very significant amount of lost revenue and wasted resources that occur if something stupid like this is pulled.

Did Dropbox stop pushing this change? I did not want it and kept deferring. Then in my admin had a message we will let you know when we are ready to upgrade you. Now that is totally gone.
I just want to make sure I do not wake up one morning and the change happened.

Hi Krutsch,
Wondered how the switch to Google Drive went? I'm so freaking out about this Dropbox 'upgrade' and have so far managed to postpone it. I've haven't found any positive talk on forums, so have been looking into how the file sync works with google drive and also the pathways, as I have HTML links for email signatures etc that I will need to rework after the upgrade or move. So painful, I dread to think how much down time it will cause. I'm no tech head, and too small a design studio to employ one.
Cheers, Meghan
