recover deleted files via dropbox

Hi there!

Probably when I did, I was dense and made a stupid mistake.

When I downloaded dropbox for my desktop, the system started synchronizing my desktop with the Dropbox acount. I stopped that, but the system created a reference folder from my desktop (in my mind not with all of my files, because I stopped the process)

That was okay, but last Sunday I deleted the files inside that folder and the system deleted all my folders/files/everything from my desktop permanently.

I tried to recover with concerning programs, (the program found things from 2015, but I found 0 sign from the searched files...) I checked the bin and even checked the dropbox version history/bin too, but there are no signs from my files. (Im using the free version)

Do I have a chance to recover my stuff?

Hey Pomogacs, thanks for the speedy reply!

It sounds like you permanently deleted the files off of your device then. In this case, there's not much we would be able to do, if any.

Can you also check your events page, and let me know what you can find there?

I've looked in those obvious places.  The problem is that Dropbox does things that I did not expect and would never have wanted,  i.e. synching to my desktop files.  Dropbox never worked correctly so I quit using is about ten months ago.  Recently the gd thing started causing problems with the path when I was saving Word documents to my desktop files.   I did a search for Dropbox and found four files.  I deleted those files and found to my horror that almost all of my desktop files were deleted.  Not in the recycle bin or anywhere else.  The computer was taken to my PC shop and nothing could be found or recovered.  How in hell Dropbox would have a program that would delete files and folders that are on the desktop is absolutely beyond understanding.  I will never use Dropbox again, ever.  This was a disaster.

I've now talked to three shops that handle data recovery and examined the hard drive myself.  All of the folders on my desktop are completely gone and the person on my team is having problems also that are related to my deletion of dropbox.  I will never, ever use dropbox again and have advised some of my clients and business colleagues about the problem with dropbox synching to their desktop without permission.  What a miserable company.  No help whatsoever from dropbox.  They do not even have a phone number that you can call unless you pay for an account.
