Setting up scheduled backup

I already use Dropbox, and would like to set up scheduled backup. Do I have to delete my existing files/folders on Dropbox before doing so, to make sure there's enough space? The scheduled backup will be for exactly the same folders that I have already uploaded to Dropbox.

    Welcome to our Community, ggi!

Just to be on the same page, would you like to set your Dropbox app to back up your folders at a specific time during the day?

Do you mean something else perhaps by “scheduled backup”?

    Keep me updated!

    Hi Nancy! Yes, that's right.

    Thanks for clarifying!

I'm afraid that this isn't possible via the desktop app, at the moment.

In general, Dropbox will sync your files/folders automatically, as long as the app is connected to the internet.

The only option would be to pause syncing altogether and only resume, when you wish. However, none of your files would be able to sync in the in-between.

Let me know though if you have any other questions.

Is this a planned feature? I would love to schedule backups for the end of day, rather than having it constantly back up while I'm working.

Hi ebrown1942, currently there isn't any roadmap on whether or not a feature will be included in the future.

As a workaround, you could have a script on your machine to have the Dropbox desktop application startup at a specific time of day, and it will then automatically sync the files changed.

I wish, I need it throughout the day but I wouldn’t need to back up my computer until the end of the day…. I can’t be the only one that would prefer it this way. Please consider this a formal feature request, if Dropbox Backup is to actually be a thing not just a beta, some basic scheduling settings such as these would be paramount. Thanks 🙂
